Anyone seen Sweet Charity?
I'm still holding out on the purchase of Broadway tickets for my group of five over July 4th weekend. Hairspray is winning right now, but I'm thinking Sweet Charity might be a sleeper. Any "buzz" on this one?

I have a friend who saw it in Chicago and felt that Christine Applegate was quite good, but the production as a whole was very weak, with some almost embarrassing moments -- they were so badly done.
The reviews have not been kind and the Broadway production was cancelled then (supposedly due to Ms. Applegate's insistance and possibly some of her own money(?)) it is back on for opening. She broke her foot and was temporarily replaced, but is going back into the production. It's always a pretty fun show, but I doubt from all signs that it's going to be a great production in the manner of the original with Gwen Verdon, or the revival with Debbie Allen. |
Bumping this one on the chance that someone happened to see Christina's performance Monday night.......

This isn't exactly an unbiased report, but you might want to read this, just as a point of interest:

We did see Christina on opening night and thought it was better than reviews we read.Let me stress it was opening night for her and everyone was pulling for her and the house went wild at her walk on, so the excitment level was very high. I'd give it a few weeks and see if the foot holds out and the reviews are consistent.
