Anyone know what's the deal w/ Dinkytown?

I just moved to MPLS and was wondering where the name"Dinkytown" came from?? Also if you could suggest some rest/diners around town.. I would appreciate it as well. Thanks

Never heard it before, but isn't it just a "translation" from the Latin?

mini(a)-polis=dinky-town

If you would like a detailed review of the (possible) origins of the name, here's the link:

http://www.mndaily.com/daily/1996/02/28/news/dinky/

For those unfamiliar, Dinkytown is a small, quirky neighborhood adjacent to the University of Minnesota.
That's its real name.
Origin is questioned, but several theories are offered at the website above--including that 50 years ago gentlemen were referred to as 'dinks', and they congregated there, where the fraternities for U of M are.
