Anyone know about Waimanalo, Oahu?

We are thinking about renting a house that is beachfront in April. We would love to hear anything you know about the area.

THANKS!!!!

Beautiful beaches in this area, but a bit rougher neighborhood than say, Kailua. It's a very "local" area for the most part, but there are some nice beach homes. I'd check the pictures carefully, especially to see what the neighbor houses look like, and ask if parking is on the property or out on the street.

Not much of interest in the town. You may see horses on the road, and there are a few small stores and eating places. McDonald's and 7-11 created quit a stir when they came in a few years back.

Were'nt you looking at some place on the beach by Hawaii Kai? I'd go for that, unless the Waimanalo house is just fabulous.

The Hawaii Kai property wanted a additional $2,000 deposit that they would give back to us 14 days after we left. I got a bit nervous of that because if they were to dock us for something and not give the deposit back it would be hard to dispute from another state.
I am trying to get that waived currently. But if it doesn't work out then I am going to the house in Waimanalo.

It's one of the most beautiful spots on the island. We spend a lot of time there. Just don't walk around at night etc.

Waimanalo Beach is one of my favorites - it's simply beautiful and never seems to be crowded when I'm there. But the previous cautions about the neighborhood apply. It's a little rougher over there - lots of "local" population, and plenty of teenagers. Hopefully the parking IS on property - if not don't lock your rental car or leave ANYTHING in it. And don't go out roaming around after dark. As long as you're careful you should be fine and enjoy the gorgeous beach.
