Anyone have any info on Savannah?

To get out of the city and do something a little different (instead of Wisconsin or Michigan), we're thinking about spending a weekend in Savannah next month. Anyone have anything to share about the area? Lodging or restaurant suggestions? Scenic drives? Info about Mississippi Palisades State Park?

Thanks! :)

Ah, Illinois, not Georgia.
And I was all ready :-)

Thanks anyway, starrs! Believe me, I wish we were going to Savannah, GA. One of my fondest travel wishes is a trip to Savannah and Charleston. One of these days!

And thanks for the link! I'd actually googled it awhile ago. And, in fact, have been there before. But it was just a pass through. So I'm hoping maybe someone who's familiar with the area might have some inside info, so to speak.

From what I can remember, there are beautiful views of the river from the park. I'm looking forward to seeing those again.

I'm wondering though how congested the area gets in October? The fall colors must be spectacular on the bluffs!

You absolutely need to try and eat at Mrs. Wilkes boarding house restaurant. Get there early so as not to stand in line for a long time. It is the best ever!!!

Thanks, Patatbeach! That's just the kind of info I was hoping for!

Just looked it up, Pat. It looks great. But it's in Georgia!
Will keep it in mind if I ever get there though! :)

Anyone?

I realized shortly after I posted this that I should have put Illinois in the thread title. At the time, it seemed redundant since I was tagging it. But it would have made for less confusion, I suppose.
