Anyone Flaming Gorge Lodge and the Dinosaur National Monument , Utah ?

Anyone been to Flaming Gorge and the Dinosaur National Monument? We are planning a cross country trip with our 13 year old daughter. After we leave the Grand Tetons we are looking for a couple of suggestions of places on our way to Grand Junction,CO. We saw those two , but have no idea how interesting they might actually be or if better places might be on our way as well.

Flaming Gorge isn't one of my favorite lakes, but Dinosaur National Monument is worth the time. Unfortunately the Quarry at Dinosaur National Monument is closed due to structural problems. Read More: http://www.nps.gov/dino/why-is-the-q...ter-closed.htm This is still a very scenic area to explore. Both of these areas are on your way to Grand Junction from Grand Tetons.

If you want to continue down Hwy 191 to I-70 you won't be far from Moab, Utah and Canyonlands and Arches National Park along with some of the most scenic drives like Hwy 128 and Postash Road. If you decide to go to this area, I can give you a lot more information. Adding this area would add another 200 miles to your trip but would be well worth it if you have 2 - 4 extra days to site see.

Also, just outside of Grand Junction is Colorado National Monument.

We camped at Flaming Gorge and loved it. We had a campsite overlooking the lake and it was really cool. We were taking an extended road trip and were returning from Yellowstone, were meeting friends in Colorado so this was on the way.

I have been to Flaming Gorge and Dinosaur but too long ago to remember much about it. I do think we went horseback riding somewhere near Flaming Gorge.

Dinosaur note; some of the "stimulus" money is going to repair and reopen the quarry building. Haven't heard yet when they expect it to reopen though. Flaming Gorge is pretty for a stop over and you can take a 2 hour raft trip from just below the dam. Lots of fun, especially in the summer when the VERY cold water feels great!
