Anyone ever seriously overbid using Priceline?
Recently I was doing a Priceline bid, while half awake and almost bid $400.00 for a two star hotel room in Georgia. I was trying to bid $40.00 but put in an extra 0 by mistake. I almost hit the "buy button" but my friend who came into the room and happened to look over my shoulder caught me a second before it was to late.
I am curious, would Priceline "reject" the $400 bid for a two star hotel in a town where the most expensive retail rack rate for a room is under $100. ?? What if I would have bid $4000.00 by mistake? Anyone ever overbid (using Priceline) by accident and lived to tell us about it? |
Yeah, but not nearly as expensive as that! I checked Hotwire for a rental car and used their lowest price to bid on Priceline. It was accepted, I was proud and then went to the rental car website where I realized I could've saved about $6 a day reserving direct. I WAS awake at the time, too.......but I guess I didn't do my homework, so I couldn't complain. My bad.

There's a customer service telephone number on the PL site. If you made a serious overbid you could phone them and explain the mistake. I read somewhere that they would rescind an obvious overbid such as $400 for a $40- level room.

Priceline Customer Service will give you a break - one time only.
Obviously, you really have to pay attention, each step of the way. And, I, too, have learned to do more homework first before bidding. I've also determined never to bid late at night, when I'm anxious, or in a hurry. |
Not seriously, only about $30 (but for 3 nights!). I had been bidding for a resort in South Beach, hoping for one of 2 specific hotels, when I got careless plus I was in a hurry on my way out the door. I clicked on 4 star rather than resort, and ended up paying $120 for a 4 * that I know I could've gotten for $90. I called customer service and begged them to let me keep bidding on a resort (I would've gone even higher for one), but no dice.
DJK is right, it's easy to not pay attention, especially when bidding on a resort, since they list it 4 *, then 3, then 2 and then Resort. They don't but them in order and I"ve clicked on 4 * instead of resort more than once, but luckily I've caught myself the other times. You cannot be in a hurry! |
Still wondering if Priceline has a ON-LINE safety feature what would kick in and inform the bidder that their bid was to high, or would they just take the extra money. ?
