Anyone ever rented a houseboat on Lake Powell?

Toying with the idea of renting a houseboat for next summer for our family of four. It seems a little intimidating to navigate around the lake but the websites say it is easy and the ideas sounds fun.

If anyone has done this, please let me know what was your experience?

An old thread, do a search here or on google for more.

Google some and get some ideas. As noted on the above thread, a houseboat is more house than boat and it isn't too hard to float around in the open areas of the lake, but trying to maneuver it is a whole nother story. Gas is expensive and they use a lot. If you want to explore, you really need a smaller power boat.

IF you still want to do this, Antelope Point Marina has some beauties.

We rented a powerboat there years ago (water levels probably higher then!) and had a blast exploring. The water-filled canyons which form the many fingers of the lake were straightforward to navigate- and you can go waaay up them in a small boat. We saw petroglyphs on the walls of one, and beached the boat and swam at another. We had a half-day rental and grinned the whole time.
The houseboats do seem attractive as accommodations on the lake, but a small, nimble motorboat will afford you a lot more flexibility and opportunity if exploring is what you want. You could always do both.

Thank you for the replies. I did read that you can attach a smaller boat to the houseboat for exploring. Didn't even think about the gas costs. That may get really expensive. Let me look at power boat rentals.
