Anybody ever have t shirts made for group taking a trip?

We are a group of friends that travel somewhere in the world together about every 2 years. 6 of us are headed to Ireland next May. Thought it may be nice to have t shirts or sweatshirts custom made. Would want professional looking logos but that could be customized for our group and this trip.

Anybody ever done this? If so, have any recommendations on which company to contact?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Do you want someone to design the logos? Or just make up some sweatshirts? The latter is easy to find - just check local mini-printers in your area (but be very careful about quality - they tend to make these things disposable). If you want a logo designed - I would check if anyone in the group has an art student in the family - otherwise it could get very pricey.

Before you go to all that trouble, I'd ask your friends if they want to wear matching outfits while traveling. I wouldn't!

It might be fun to get this as a souvenir at the end of the trip for wearing (by myself) afterwards.

Don't think I want to create artwork. Hopefully could find shirt company with stock logos that could be customized for our group/trip.

Thanks for heads up about poor quality of shirts.

Will check out zazzle.

Thanks....................

For a school group -- sure. Helps the chaperones keep track of everybody. But a group of adults traveling together -- just seems a bit naff IMO.

I can see it now -- a group of Yanks walks into a pub wearing . . .

Instead of t-shirts for a group of adults, you may want to look at getting polo-type shirts with an embroidered logo. My brother and his friends had this done for a trip they took together and they looked great.
I don't know where you are located, but you can check for local companies that do embroidery. (They can probably design the logo for you too). There are also national companies that do this kind of work as well.

How about windbreaker (jackets) instead of tshirts? Look at www.landsend.com in the Business section for ideas, that's where we do our logo'd items at my office like shirts, vests, jackets. You'd need your own artwork, or perhaps just a monogram-style for the group instead of a logo?

We have made t-shirts for many of our church groups. Its pretty neat and I dont think its corny at all. We wear our shirts then have a group photo made and it easy to keep track of everyone. I wouldnt wear it everyday but 1 day would be alright.I would check with your local printer, embroiderey shops in your area. You can get them done at a reasonable price.Have a great trip and give us a trip report when you return home.

I do this for our clients. Be advised that embroidery
will cost more than silk-screening and not necessary for say,
T-shirts but definitely for baseball-type hats.
That said, embroidery is much more elegant since the thread-count appears 'raised.'
You will have to supply artwork unless you choose
a supplier w/artwork inventory.

I was in Yosemite a few weeks ago and saw a group with identical t-shirts. They all said Dai's 80 - Summer 2011. And dad had one on that said "I'm dad".

They were having a lot of fun.

I didn't read where the OP said they would be wearing them all together on this trip. "To each their own" or "To none, another's."

That should be easy to clarify...

Philip, are you planning for these shirts to be worn by everyone as they travel, or as a souvenir at the end?

We've used this company many times over the last 15 years; their work is very nice, If I recall correctly, the first time I supplied our logo and they created the complete design. Since then, we've always had the same thing embroidered so I can't remember how the designing was priced.

I've used Land's end once. We purchased bags for a school group, and queensboro didn't have a similar item. We were happy with the bags, but they were a bit more expensive. it might have been due to having new art set up.

Check LLBean too -

If you don't want to go with a logo, you can just have a shirt in the same color monogrammed. It makes for a nice group picture (and the answer is "yes" - for a family trip)

You might try CustomInk.com. They can do something as simple as a screen printed tshirt all the way to an embroidered polo or jacket. They have tons of artwork to upload and customize. In less than 5 minutes I found they could do green performance polos with a logo that is the outline of Ireland with 'Ireland' across it, embroidered in light grey. You could add a small line of text above or below the logo to personalize for the trip, say 'Kelly Family - 2011.' The instant quote, for 10 polos was $29 each with free delivery. It's certainly easy to experiment for comparison's sake. We have ordered tshirts from there and they were good quality. They tell you the exact weight of the fabric so you can judge what kind of quality/thickness level you would like.

I went to NYC last week and there was a huge group of Texas women wearing bright red t-shirts that were "Broadway Bound". That would be the last thing I would want to do is walk around NYC in a bright red t-shirt with a group, unless I was part of some kind of team.

But then again, I prefer to be anonymous, so go ahead, buy your t-shirts.

MAny of the bigger WalMarts have a leased-area in the front of the store for monogrammed gifts. You can buy shirts anywhere and then take them there to be monogrammed. They can scan pre-existing logos or use stock images they already have on hand. They are separate from Wal-Mart and the price ona big order is negotiable. I've used them a lot for one-off things.
