Anybody ever feel bummed after returning from vacation?

After planning vacations typically 3 months out, doing all the research, anticipating all the activities planned; getting home can sometimes be a let down. Anyone else ever experience this?

Always. That's why I immediately start planning the next one!

I am the wife Don, thanks Nina for your astute observation and your advice for planning another one now, I will! And Don, pardon my punctuational flub.

No. I live in a resort town on the ocean and that makes it easier to come home.

Have been looking at fares to YOUNAMEIT for Thanksgiving this morning just got back Sunday from Kauai...

It does help to start the plans for the next one but I think I will save for the moment. I met 3 different people buying homes on the NS of Kauai on my trip. WHY THEM AND NOT ME?? Because I vacation my money away instead of banking it.

Wowest me can't seem to live without a great vacation. Will try to cut back maybe skip a Thanksgiving in Italy, Colorado blah blah blah.

yes I usually feel somewhat down, comparing the feeling to right after the Holidays. All that shopping, wrapping, entertaining, meal planning, and it is all over. The bills all come in and it is a cold dark Jan. Worse yet is returning back to work. UGH!! That is the worse part of all. Like someone said time to start planning another one!! It is the only cure.

I start planning the next vacation on the way home. It really helps not to feel down. Even if your vacation is not soon, start planning. Start dreaming! Think of going back again or going to a different place. Check all websites. Pick a hotel. Pick a plane. Print out your itinerary. Even if you won't use it, it will help to feel better.

Good advice Faina, that's what I do every time I return from a trip.

Call me crazy, but on the way back from a trip, I think about how much of a great time I had,and am eager to get back to work. The last thing I feel is depression. I work my ass off to the point that I need a vacation.I take one and feel good after it.

No. I always have trips planned so I know there is something right around the corner. Mexico, New York, Orlando, and Key West over the next 8 months.

Wow, I love this site. Before I found Fodor's I thought I was the odd one. I plan for months for every trip, and love every minute of it! I try to go somewhere, even if it is only for a long weekend every few months. I really love chosing just the right hotel, the best restaurants etc. To answer the original question, yes it is depressing. Especially, if it is during the winter months and you have just been somewhere warm and beautiful. That drive home from the airport, everything dark and grey, litter, graffiti etc. But as soon as I can, I start planning the next one and feel better. I certainly can relate to Sara, I cut coupons and shop the clearance racks, but just can't stop the travel!

one thing that does help from personal experience is to leave your home really clean and tidy to come back to - i once came back to Toronto on new years day to an untidy apartment and that was a real bummer

The is nothing on this earth I like more than planning my next vacation. It keeps me alive and going at work. I put that date on the calendar and countdown the weeks. It always helps to have something great to look forward to. My next vacation is for 2 weeks over Xmas and then I will start to plan my spring jaunt. Happy tavelling y'all.

After reading this posting very early this a.m. I became a little depressed...We are packing for our trip to London on Thursday and cruising back.. but what after that.... With my newspaper this a.m. came the winter catalog for GWV charter vactions this winter...my spirit is lifted. Some where along the line I have read that depression does set in when you return home after a vacation and that planning or even thinking about another one is good therapy...So, after killing myself to leave a clean house to come home to...I know...that my winter vacation choices are at my finger tips....After our February vacation...well, maybe another cruise to Bermuda...just have to pick a date.. I';ve just received my preventative post-vacation therapy..lol
