Any tips for $$ saving at Grand Wailea?
Hi!

We are looking at going to the Grand Wailea in February with friends who have kids, so unfortunately we need to go during the same week when most school kids are off-which I am sure will be a busy week when rates will be high.

Does anyone have any tips for $$saving- packages, agents, etc. or anything that might cut the rate? So far, both the resort and travel-hawaii.com look about the same-$378/night including car and the G. Wailea package throws in breakfast (which is good-because I imagine it is pricey :)

Does anyone know if the G Wailea is on the Entertainment rate? If so, that might be a way to save. We would like to stay there, but like most of the hotels there it is pretty high/night.

Thanks-sorry to sound like such a cheapskate-but I figured someone out there might have some tips.

Jeanne

I have not stayed at The Grand Wailea, but I know for a fact that it is NOT on Entertainment. If you are looking for a good value in a luxury hotel, why not consider The Renaissance Wailea? It is on Entertainment, at far less than $378/nt. We stayed there 2 yrs ago, and thought it was a wonderful place;a good compromise between a Mega hotel with huge facilites and a smaller hotel. It has great access to the beach, and the Grand Wailea is in walking distance when you're on the beach. Although the Grand Wailea is visually spectacular, it seems a bit formal and ostentatious to me. The hawaiian islands doesn't seem the most appropriate place for overdone formality. ( hope Donald Trump never builds a hotel there! )

Thanks Tony

I will check it out-the rooms on their site I beleive showed for more money but I will go and take a more careful look and check out the entertainment prices as well

Why not consider a condo? There are many lovely ones not only in Wailea, but Kaanapoli, Kapalua, etc. I would think that a family with kids would get more for their money in the long run with a condo. While it appears you don't have kids it's still not a bad idea, we've stayed in great places (no kids either) and never paid $378 a night believe me. Unless you really have a mad passion to spend that much I'd reconsider. A good thing with a condo for the family w/kids is that there is simply more room and the ones we've had all had washers & dryers which was great for tossing in the bathing suits, etc. Granted it's a vacation and you are not there to do housework, but having a kitchen really helps with snacks (we always ate out but do keep snacks in the 'frig along with soft drinks, etc.). Daily maid service takes care of the "routine stuff" so it's like a hotel with more room.

Hi,

My Sister and Brother in law have some type of membership at Grand Wailea that gets them 40% off all the room rates. This is good for anyone they know as well. It may be worth checking into if you MUST stay at GW.

Otherwise, you can save a lot of money staying in a condo or hotel/condo type place. I just stayed at the Aston Kaanapali Beach. There you can get the Entertainment rate. For example, $85 per night for a studio with full kitchen and daily maid service.

Good luck!
Chuck

Thanks for the help. Chuck, we have a friend who has that membership and it did sve lots of money-50% off the first room and 40% off the 2nd. I guess they aren't offering them anymore-but it helped a lot-so thanks for that tip. Even though we know we can go the condo route-we decided to splurge in the GW for the kids-supposed to have great pools, etc. We decided to stay at a bargin place in Honolulu instead to make up the differece. Thanks again everyone for the help.
