Any timeshare experts?
I was more than pleasantly surprised to see a listing on Craigslist for a Manhattan Club in New York (which is indeed a nice place) at a wonderful rate. After a couple emails, I finally explained that I was a bit skeptical as the price was so cheap -- less than half of what the same units rent for on other sites. Here's the explanation I got. Can someone explain this to me?

Thanks, iceeu2, I tried that, registered and attempted to send a private message, but it keeps telling me there is no "boca bum" as a user. I also tried bocabum.

Wow. I did just learn from tug2net that the annual maintenance fee per week is $1000. That means I'm getting a rental for less than the annual maintenance fee?

We bought a five-night package for my son and his wife as a honeymoon gift in August. They absolutely loved it and said their unit was bigger than most NYC apartments. The location is superb, also.

You will get a good idea of the "going rate" for the Manhattan Club. Yours seems like it is "too good to be true". |

wow, yes I'm already aware that the offered rate is about a fourth the "usual" rental rate (too good to be true), although there are cases of other extremely low rates sometimes offered -- I've seen them on RedWeek too. So yes, it does seem too good to be true, yet I'd sure hate to walk away from it if it is possible. My main goal here and on the Timeshare site is to find out if such a deal is possible. This "agency" lists other similar deals and so far I sure haven't been able to find any negative comments about them. Their statement in my first post above is the one that I just didn't understand as I'm not familiar with timeshare terminology. I'm not sure that anyone else has yet figured out just how it explains why they would make such an offer.
By the way, several years ago friends who owned a unit at Manhattan Club, let us use their last two nights there as they were about to expire. Our one bedroom apartment with two full baths was beautiful, spacious, elegantly and comfortably furnished, and simply perfect in every way. That's why I keep pursuing this. I know of no comparative situation in NYC for a month at even double the price. |
HI--any downside to calling the Manhattan Club directly and asking if that "agency" has rented units there before and whether they have received any feedback, complaints, etc? It would seem that you could do that w/o divulging your name, i.e. just an inquiry.

That's a good idea, socialworker, in fact I tried that -- three times so far. I ask my question and they say I must talk to customer service and they transfer me. So far each time, I've hung up after at least a half hour wait. There is NO customer service at Manhattan Club. I did sent the MC an email though on Monday, and haven't heard back.
Meanwhile, I'm not so sure that what this agency is doing is really authorized by the Manhattan Club. I'm not sure I want to alert them to it, in the event it really is as advertised. |
Hi, Patrick: The odd thing about this is that they are telling you they will rent it to you for a month. With timeshares that means that the Owner owns 4 weeks. I know of no TS ppty that will guarantee an Owner the same unit for 4 consecutive weeks. The way it works is that you can reserve your 4 consecutive weeks but you only know when you check-in where you will be staying. Sometimes you can get the 4 weeks in the same unit. Sometimes not.

Oh....and, I have no clue what your quoted reference means...in TS language or in English! Why don't you post it over @ TUG2 & see what the TS owners over there have to say about it

I'm so glad you are working with TUG & TS4M's for your answer. It's good to see you over there. Hopefully, you will continue to visit those two sites and help all the t/s owners with your knowledge and expertise on traveling to various areas. I posted the same thing (almost) on 4M's...
