Any suggestions for a kid-free night in Myrtle Beach?
 

Hi! I haven't been on the boards in awhile thanks to my two toddlers (ages 2 and 1). But we finally have a family vacay planned for October to Myrtle Beach. My parents will be there with us and have offered to take the boys for an evening or two so we can have "date night." Any suggestion for things to do? We're less interested in fancy restaurants (the boys are actually REALLY good in restaurants so we can pretty much take them anywhere) and more interested in things that are logistically impossible with kids :) Maybe a water park, or a beachfront bar, or a sunset sail. Any ideas?

We could also use a recommendation for a great seafood place to give my parents a GC as a thank-you for aforementioned date nights, haha. They're not into "fancy" either -- their ideal would be a kitschy old fish shack with super-fresh shrimp and lots of it. Hope that helps!

Wish I could help you, but I know nothing about Myrtle. The last time I went to Pawley's I went to High Hammock, loved it, then it closed. If you were in Charleston I could tell you exactly what you should do! Sorry.

What about heading over to Murrell's Inlet...lots of dining choices and can have drinks on the many patios/decks. I haven't been in the fall but in the summer, different places have live music.

About 5 yrs ago, we had a great meal at Divine Fish House in MI. Not sure how it is today but maybe someone else will chime in.

The zipline is at Broadway at the Beach as part of the new Wonderworks. It basically just goes over the water - nothing too exciting compared to many others I've seen.

Also agree with Murrell's Inlet - you can walk around the boardwalk with a drink and listen to the different bands. A lot of people recommend Drunken Jacks as a restaurant there. We ate at Creek Ratz (better for lunch) and Dead Dog Saloon. There's also Spuds which is currently on Restaurant.com. We spent a few nights at MI both with and without kids - lots of fun!

I would also vote for Murrell's Inlet for dinner/drinks - Divine Fish House & Bovine's were two of our favorites; Drunken Jack's is also good. I believe you could also contact the harbormaster there to find out if there are sunset sails - I know they do parasailing, shelling, etc. in the summer months. You could also check out Brookgreen Gardens to see if they have any evening activities planned.

We've spent our last two summer vacations in Myrtle Beach. Not sure which area you are staying in, but we were in North Myrtle which has a lot of fun restaurants, the House of Blues is a fun choice for a night out, on Friday nights they have a house band that plays on an outdoor patio and on Sunday mornings they have a really nice gospel brunch - maybe you might want a morning out?? There are dinner cruises that depart from Barefoot Landing and travel along the intracoastal waterway. As far as kitschy restaurants - there are always the many buffet restaurants - we went to the Giant Crab - more for the tacky atmosphere than the food - but boy were those crab legs good! We had a blast!

I would recommend you and your husband go to Tommy Bahama's for Happy Hour, then a stroll around the Market Commons stores, or take a walk around the lake (1 mile.) Parking is free anywhere in the Market Common area.

It would help to know where you are staying. I would hate to send you down to Murrells Inlet if you are staying in, say, North Myrtle Beach. But here are some restaurants with good seafood, but not too fancy for your gift certificate. (You can google these for additional information)
