coolbluewater. . . thanks for the tip on the Christmas market near our hotel. I didn't know. Also appreciate the hot chocolate tip!! What else is in the Time Warner Center worth seeing?
SusanC. . . I wouldn't mind knowing more about the origin of "muggers express" and what to watch out for.
Anyone care to share insights on the "muggers express?" Fact or fiction?

TWC is kind of like NYC's own shopping mall, but it does have a great Whole Foods, and it's a wonderful place to grab lunch. They have a seating area that is very popular. The stores are all mostly chains (not sure if you're interested in shopping), but I do love the Cole Haan store.
The third (?) floor of the TWC is jokingly called the "World's Most Expensive Food Court". That's where you'll find Thomas Keller's Per Se, and Masa, which serves sushi for $400 per head. The Stone Rose is a great place to get a cocktail and has spectacular views of Central Park. It's not cheap, but I think it's kinda worth it.

re: Muggers Express
I googled the terms "Muggers Express" and "subway" and have come to the conclusion based on my findings that it is the No. 4 to the Bronx. Links to articles I found are below http://travel.iafrica.com/destin/nor...ica/386162.htm and http://www.time.com/time/magazine/pr...920294,00.html (this is an old article). Apparently they were patrolled by the Guardian Angels but are better now.

Wow...if that's the muggers express, than what's the muggers local? The 6?
Kellbell - you have nothing to worry about riding this or any subway as long as you use common sense. I have a feeling the nickname "muggers express" was relevant back when Bernie Goetz rode the subway.

I didn't look at the first but that second article was from 1979! And I can assure you that only those with a death wish were riding the subway at night - particularly on THAT route.
When you ride the train late at night - say thank you to Bill Bratton and Rudy Guiliani!

Naw, Bernie took the #2 train and did his deed between the 14th St. station and the Chambers St. Station.
