Any recommendations on Moab, Canyonlands, Zion, & Bryce Cyn in Utah?
In October, we're going to Moab, Canyonlands, Zion, and Bryce in Utah. We want lots of hiking, mtn biking, whitewater rafting, backpacking, and camping...any recommendations?
We're hoping for suggestions esp. on hiking trails and backpacking area.
Thanx!

The trails inside Bryce and Zion NPs are varied and interesting and can last from an hour to several days. Park visitor centers and their newsletters are very informative. I'd suggest driving or cycling SR 12 between Bryce and Capitol Reef. Another interesting hiking area is Natural Bridges NM in SE Utah. There's a good hostel, Dixie Inn in Hurricane UT, near Zion. You'll have a great time in that awe-inspiring country! We were there in May.

Canyonlands is amazing, I've only been to the Island in the Sky area, there are also the Needles and the Maze. Here is some very remote & beautiful red rock canyon country. No crowds. If you like adventure and roughing it, mountain bike or 4 wheel the White Rim Trail. Getting down to it is thrilling, you go down a gooseneck canyon and numerous switchbacks. The trail is almost 100 miles long. It takes 3-4 days by bike and about 2 days by jeep. You will need to bring everything with you (water, food) and get a permit to backcountry camp. An amazing site is the potash mine in where else, Potash. It is like a mirage in the middle of the desert. It is bright blue like the Caribbean ocean. If you like to primitive camp, Moab and Canyonlands is surrounded by Bureau of land Mgmt land where you can camp anywhere.

I just don't think you can go wrong in any of the places you're talking about. We went coast to coast two years in a row as a kid and these were all places we did both years.
Although Bryce and Zion are both terrifc, Canyonlands is amazing, and we actually liked Arches the best.
