Any recent info on Coco Palms?
 

This property used to be one of our favorites. I understand it was badly damaged by Hurricane Iniki in '92, and was not rebuilt because of some insurance and other legal issues.

Does anyone know if it has or might get new owners who might reopen it? The hotel setting was absolutely beautiful.

Never mind, I found the info I was looking for. Apparently it's going to reopen in 2008, with construction starting next year:

Hello fdecarlo, I loved the CocoPalms also. I felt so bad when it was destroyed. I hope the new hotel is as wonderful. Thanks for the website!

My SO's first trip to Hawaii was in 1978, these photos brought back some very fond memories. I hope the new owners keep the same feel as the original hotel. Apparently they're keeping the original lobby and wedding chapel -- Elvis fans should be happy.

We jspent part of our honeymoon at the Coco Palms--I still remember the outrigger-canoe beds!

So many of Hawaii's resorts try to be "authentic". The original Coco Palms owners took a different approach, and instead created what they considered to be a Polynesian paradise, without much regard for what was authentic. The irony is that the results turned out more authentically Hawaiian in feel, with more Aloha spirit than any other resort in the state.
