Any one stayed at or have feedback on West Eleventh Townhouses in NYC

I've been wanting to go to NYC during the Xmas holidays but my husband has always been put off because of the hotel prices. We have recently rented apts in Paris and Italy and it went exceptionally well. So I started researching apts in NYC and then read the threads on Fodors that it may be illegal to rent apts in NYC.

I found this TH and the price and location look great - Has anyone stayed here, what do you think of the location, any chance it is a scam? Thanks

they follow the law and charge tax so I would assume it is fine. Location is great!

This is not an apartment rental - it's a B&B and the owners are following local laws.

To note:

Elevator - no stairs (flights of stairs will be high and steep)
No smoking
No kids

"Apartments" do not seem to have lving rooms - just bedrooms - look at descriotions and photos carefully.

Seems a good choice depending on your wants/needs.

Haven't stayed there but it's legal/legitimate and the village is a great location where there are very few traditional hotels. There are a number of similar places around the city like 1871house.com which has working fireplaces, located on the edge of midtown and the upper east side near Bloomingdales; and www.wymanhouse.com and countryinnthecity.com, both on the upper west side.

There are also some apartment hotels that are perfectly legal that provide the amenities of apts & hotels like beaconhotel.com also on the upper west side.

West Eleventh Townhouses are located in a great location and look charming.

One silly thing to me: the web site describes the apartments in CUBIC feet, since the 12-foot ceilings make the cubic measurement quite large. This reminds me of triple-spacing your report so it looks like more pages. A measurement of square footage--the footprint of the space--would be more usual and helpful.

I've had NYC apartments with high ceilings that were teeny--would have been bigger if you could turn the place on its side.)

As nytraveler said, study the photos carefully to be sure of the features. For example, the Monet and Caravaggio apartments have lovely sitting areas and reasonable kitchens, but there's not much room to either side of the bed. This may or may not be important to you.

Thanks for the feedback, I know you can always count on the Fodorites for great info. Since staying in hotels in Europe I always do look at how much room is on either side of the bed. For a couples getaway this looks great - I've always wanted to stay in the Village.
