Chicago - Union Station

Can anyone tell me how far the Amtrak station is from the Magnificent Mile/River North Area.. We are staying at Hotel 71, and would like an idea of how much we can expect to pay for a taxi? Or is there other transportation opions for us (subway/bus)?
Thanks for your help

It's not far. But with weather or with luggage, you might not want to walk it.

I walk from LaSalle St. Station to River North and Michigan Ave. routinely and it is FARTHER than from Union Station, by maybe 3 long blocks at least. Take a cab if you prefer not to walk.

To me, well, I would not consider the bus. Subway- not for that distance either.

Google the address of Union St. and the address of the Hotel 71 on mapquest or any driving instruction site and you will see if you think that walk is doable for you, or if you think it is too far with luggage.

It is not far but I would not walk if you have luggage. If your luggage is light and it is nice it is a great walk and a great way to see the city on foot. I use to work over there and live in River north so the cab could cost from 5-10 depending on the time of the day.

Good Luck and have fun!

I just did the Rand McNally driving directions and they were 1.2 miles.

1.2 miles between the two points. Most people with luggage would cab it.

I bet it would be the minimum cab fee permitted, it is such a short distance-but I do not know what that is right now.

I paid not more then $10 to go to the Amtrak station, and my hotel was 2-3 blocks away from the Mag Mile.

I took Amtrak almost cross-country, to Emeryville (San Francisco).
