Any nice, quiet beaches near Va. Beach??

Jump to last reply

Going to Williamsburg next week and would like to spend a day at beach. Do not want typical crowded beach of downtown Va. Beach. Any less crowded/family oriented beaches nearby? Thanks!

I know this is 3 months too late, but I just saw your post tonight and maybe my answer can help someone else.

There are several beaches in the area as you head south from Williamsburg. All of them are good alternatives if you don't like the crowds along the boardwalk in Va Beach. In Hampton, there is Buckroe beach on the Chesapeake Bay. Once you cross the Hampton Roads tunnel, there are several public-access beaches off Ocean View Dr. in Norfolk. If you want Va Beach but less crowds, head to Seashore State Park, Chicks Beach at the foot of the Ches. Bay-Bridge Tunnel--and no, the name does not necessarily imply anything about the beach, and my favourite... Sandbridge. From Williamsburg, Sandbridge is a bit of a drive, even though it is still within Va Beach city limits. It's much like the Outer Banks of NC--only a few little necessity-shops, public beach access, and a lot less people (usually). The closest beach to Williamsburg is Yorktown Beach, about 12 miles down the Colonial Parkway from the Williamsburg Visitors Center. Along the Parkway there are some secluded, albeit small, stretches of white sand beach on the York River.
