Any last-minute tips for the Radisson Kauai?
 

We're leaving Saturday for a week at the Radisson Kauai - any last minute tip on what room to ask for? Is the food at the hotel ok? Will I be stuck in a bad "Priceline" room? Any other thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Good location -- and if you don't like the room, ask to be changed! :-)

If you're going to be there on Friday 3/12, you've got an opportunity to see one our Hawaiian slack key guitar masters in concert right there at the hotel (7:30pm). George Kahumoku will be performing (along with uke/guitar/keyboard wizard Daniel Ho). Tickets available at the door, or ask the hotel concierge.

The lounge is a nice place to hang out later in the evening, when they have a decent musician, but the drinks are over-priced. Be sure to be around the pool(s) for free drinks at about 5 pm.

Their restaurant is also a bit over-priced, but eat there at least once to form your own opinion (the stuffed mushroom was good) and make sure to go other places as well.

They have a small quickie-mart type store in the hotel if you really require something immediate, otherwise go to K-mart or such.

I am also staying at the Radisson Kauai (this summer). We booked it through priceline, as it sounds like you did, too. I was worried about getting a bad room, so I called the hotel directly. They let me upgrade over the phone. I think it was an extra $10-20/night, but I'm not sure. It still ended up being a great deal, considering what we got it for on priceline. I've heard mixed reviews about the hotel, so I'd love to hear about your trip when you return! Have a wonderful time!!

lalalaboom, We just returned from Kauai. We stayed at the Radisson for our first day & a half before moving to our accommodations in Poipu. My first impression was that it was a nice resort.

The Pros: good location with a great view of the ocean. Nice pool and bar area. The grounds are well kept. The breakfast buffet was decent and so were the burgers in the inside lounge the night before. There is a charge for parking but it's the same price whether you or the valet parks it.

Cons: The beach is unswimable. Upon arrival we were upgraded to an oceanview ground floor room. I thought we had hit the jackpot. While the room itself was clean is was very musty as the reviews have mentioned. I figured it would be okay for the night especially if we turned on the air.
Boy was I wrong. When I woke up I had the worst sinus headache I've ever had in my life.

If you have a choice try to get an upper level room so that you can keep the lanai open. I think the problem is with the ventilation and the air conditioner. You can smell it every time the air kicked in.
