Any last minute suggestions...
It's finally here - we leave in the morning. After a year of planning, our dream trip to this amazing place is less than 24 hours away...any last minute suggestions or words of wisdom? Anchorage to Denali to Talkeetna to Girdwood to Seward to Homer and everything in between!!!
We're thinking now of stopping off at the Alaska State Fair on August 24th, but I think that might be the first day of the Fair. Does anyone know if we'll be able to catch a glimpse of some of the gigantic vegetation that Alaska produces this early in the Fair? It doesn't show on the schedule for that day. Thanks for everyone's help in making this the trip of a lifetime...I'll report back upon our return. |
That is the first day of the fair. Go to their website to see the Aug 24 Schedule, http://www.alaskastatefair.org/index.html. There is also a fairgrounds map you could print and take with you.
You will love Alaska! Have a great trip! :) |
Current update, the Alaska RR is not running and the Parks Highway is closed between Denali Park and Fairbanks, and I've heard of people not able to get past mile 140. So anyone going currently, MAKE alt plans for the Kenai Peninsula. The rains have washed out bridges. Might be significant delays in complete repairs.

Should read, make alt plans TO the Kenai. :)

What are the alternate roads to Fairbanks? I thought Parks Hiway was the only way to Fairbanks.

It is. BudgetQueen is saying you need to spend any days you had planned for Fairbanks somewhere like the Kenai Peninsula . . . or maybe Valdez if you had planned several days in Fairbanks.
