Any last minute San Diego advice?
My husband and I are leaving for San Diego on Wednesday night, staying until Sunday afternoon and I am looking for any last minute advice.

We are staying downtown and will have a car. We have Thursday and Friday to sightsee, are going to a wedding on Saturday, and may have Sunday morning to get in a little bit more sightseeing - depending on how late we stay out Saturday night, of course.

Here's what we are planning:
Thursday morning: Old Town and the mission. Thursday afternoon: Coronado Island
Thursday evenning: Gaslamp Quarter
Friday morning: Balboa Park
Friday afternoon: Mission Bay
Friday evenning: ?
Sunday Morning: Seaport Village

We decided not to go to the zoo or Seaworld on this trip since it's so short. It's our first trip to San Diego and we want to get a feel for the city.

Any advice is appreciated.

San Diego doesn't really have a city feel, not like SF or NYC. But I do have 2 suggestions:
-The Wild Animal Park is fabulous.
-Downtown La Jolla is lovely - lots of shops and beach for walking.

Thanks Liz for the advice about La Jolla and the Wild Animal Park. I've heard that La Jolla is fairly upscale and pretty trendy - is that accurate?

I agree - you must see La Jolla!

One of my favorite all time "view" places is the bench in front of the Cabrillo Natl Lighthouse Monument at the tip of Point Loma.

On a clear day, breathtaking.
The ride thru the Natl Cemetary is also right up there w/ Arlington Natl Cemetary.

We'll be back down there in June. Should be fun to hit the ol' stompin' grounds again.
Kal

You must eat at the Old Town Mexican Cafe in Old Town San Diego.

I hate to tell you this, but the forecast is calling for rain later in the week, so pack appropriatley. It will probably be chilly, mid 60's.

You have some great places planned for your visit. I hope you have a great time.

Thanks everybody!

I saw the weather report - lets just hope they are wrong and the sun comes out. The REAL reason we are going is to attend a friend's wedding, so if the weather isn't perfect that's ok.
go to la jolla on friday night for sunset and dinner. it's a nice area for going for a walk - try to get there around 4 so you can enjoy "the cove" and coast line.
when you say mission bay, i assume you are including pacific & mission beach. there is a boardwalk you can take between the two, about 1 1/2 miles, then you can do the return walk on the bay side.
another option for sunday morning would be a harbour cruise which is enjoyable & relaxing. take the one that is about 2 hours so it includes quite a bit - under the coronado bridge, past the navy ships, past point loma area.
personally, i could do old town in about 1 hour (obviously not my cup of tea) but lunch at the restaurant recommended above is a good idea.
have fun. great city.

La Jolla is indeed trendy and upscale, but it also has a great town feel to it.
