Any insight about flood problems on the Big Island?

We're going to the Big Island next week & I had read that some of the roads were closed in the Hilo area. We'll be driving from Kona to Hilo and then taking a flight from Hilo to Kauai. I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has just returned since the storms & flooding last week.

Whatever you do, DO NOT check the Hawaii state transportation web site for road conditions! They won't be able to recommend hotels and tours for you! (I recommend the Sheraaton, *wink*) And for God's sake, don't turn on the Weather Channel or check its web site. They might have weather news, but no promos! This is still the best place.

This is a great example of another person with a legitimate problem looking for advice from the people who should be able to give it getting treated like *hit from the a*sholes who populate this forum. Gee Kona, whatever you do don't give good advice, don't limit your sarcasm, and whatever you do, don't keep your mouth shut when you have absolutely nothing constructive to add.

Dear Control Freak,

In your post you used the a plural word to refer to the idiot that is freeley displaying his lack of any intelligence whatsoever in his stupid posts to this board - This is one guy who has nothing else to do but patrol this board writing moronic statements.

I certainly hope if this, as you put it, A**h**e goes to the polls, he writes in a vote for MagnumPI, hulagirl or Earplugs, or Q - one write-in vote for himself would be better than an uninformed vote by a nutcase!

CJ: hope you find the Info you need. We are going to the BI in March. If you find out anything and don't mind receiving more obnoxious posts, please post back what you find out.

CJ- I live on the Kona side and can give you some news. About 50 miles south of Captain Cook (south Kona) the road is closed as of today. A bridge was washed out and is in need of major repair. If you want to go to Hilo from Kona, you have to go the north way. (You can not drive the circle around the island) The other roads have been cleared but there is still lots of debris around the roads and in Hilo so don't be surprised if it's pretty muddy!

Hope this helps.
