Any information on the opening of an Amerisuites in the historic district of Fort Worth?
I read that a new Amerisuites would be opening this month near the stockyards in Fort Worth. Any information about this property would be helpful along with suggestions for restaurants, museums, sights, and other nice accommodations. We will visit in July with our daughter, age 15, and son, age 9. We have tickets to a Rangers' game - how far is the ballpark from FW? Thanks for your comments.

I was up in Ft. Worth a few months ago, and the Amerisuites being built is practically smack dab in the middle of the stockyards. There is basically just a visitor center and then the main street dividing the hotel and stockyards area.
We enjoyed the "parade of the Longhorns" in the afternoon (about 20-30 Longhorns walk the street, accompanied by several "cowboys"). The Cowboy Museum is worth the price of admission. It's got numerous vintage wagons, like old milk trucks, grocery wagons, fire wagons, stage coach, etc. Plus there is an assortment of cowboy displays. A number of restaurants line the street, as well as the old rail area having been converted to shopping.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the scoop on FW. I would like some feedback on the art museums. I hear the Kimbell is outstanding.
Re: Accommodations. I hope that the Amerisuites is not too isolated. Is it in a good location or would another hotel be better to see FW? We really are not into the Six Flag crowds. Would we be crazy to stay in Fort Worth for several nights to enjoy that area and then travel from there to see a Rangers' game? At this point, I'm thinking about changing locations mid-week to North Dallas (i.e. Embassy Suites) to be closer to Dallas sights.
Any comments? Thanks as usual.

Agree that you should not miss Kimbell while you're in FW.

Also worthwhile is the Modern at Fort Worth.

It's free admission to the Modern on Wednesdays and first Sundays of the month.

I agree that switching locations midway would be much better. The Stockyards is cool, but it is not centrally located at all. Most of the restaurants nearby are steakhouses or Mexican food. I think there is also a McDonald's. The immediate neighborhood is not the best, so don't wander too far off the beaten path.

Personally, I'd pick one of the ones at I-30 and University Drive, such as the Residence Inn River Plaza or Cultural District. MUCH better neighborhood with lots of restaurants, and very close to the museums/cultural district and downtown. They also have free parking, while the Stockyards area is notorious for charging.
Failing that, the Renaissance Worthington, Blackstone Courtyard Marriott or Radisson downtown. These are right on Sundance Square which has tons of restaurants and is very walkable at night. No free parking here, though.

Thanks for the wonderful comments. I did call Amerisuites. Though they did not have the rates at this time, they did indicate that the property would be open sometime this month. They did give me a fax number which I will use to inquire.
