Any info on Ukiah out there?

My family is traveling to Arcata to visit family right before Thanksgiving. We are planning to stay one night in Ukiah to break up the trip. Since we will be there just one night I'm not too worried about where we stay. But I'd love some restaurant ideas. Thank you.

Just earlier this year our son, who loves driving, took us up to Ukiah just for the fun of it. He'd treat us to a dinner, or so he thought.

We circled and circled looking for a restaurant, and finally had to settle for a Round Table pizza. The pizzas were good! The clientele... truck driver type.

On the way back, looking over his shoulder, he said it was his last visit there. I, personally, did not feel threatened, just don't enjoy pizza in general.

I hope you have better luck!

Viamar, where are you coming from that you are spending the night in Ukiah? I ask because Arcata is only a couple of hours north -- seems like you could do this a bit differently.

Healdsburg is less than an hour south of Ukiah and offers a host of great restaurants.

We're coming from Santa Cruz. It's a pretty long haul because 101 becomes 2 lanes for awhile. Last time we did this we were really burned out by the time we got there. I figured we'd spend the night in Ukiah and just have a short drive the we have be all peppy around the family.
Healdsburg is nice, but I wanted to go cheap on the lodging, we really just need a place sleep. Ukiah has a Holiday Inn Express that looks ok.
We can always have Round Table deliver to our room!

That was supposed to say"...the DAY we have TO be all peppy around the family..." Sorry.

You could also have an early dinner and then drive on to spend the night in Ukiah.

Last month we spent the night in Ukiah at the Days Inn..706-464=7584. Right next door was a good Italian restaurant ... Angelos's. It was very good, and the motel was around $85.

We were also coming down from Arcata, where my sister lives.

(BTW we live in Santa Cruz as well.)

Hi viamar,

My parents have lived in Ukiah for about 30 years. Not a lot of great restaurnts in town, but we always enjoy the Star Restaurant at 115 South Orchard Ave. Good prices, good food. There is also the Ukiah Brewing Co., but I have not eaten there. Also an Applebee's in town.

If you like wine, visit Parducci's Winery (not too far from the HI Express). Tasting is free. We usually spend at least an hour there. Some of the gals behind the counter have been there for years... they know their wine.

Have a safe journey.

Barb

Thank you for all the advice. I think we might check out the Ukiah Brewing Company. Brew pubs usually have good food. I'll let you all know how it was.
