Any ideas for NYC today--Labor Day

Were planning on day at Jersey shore, but RAIN ruined that. Thinking about a day in the city, Any suggestions for something different--we're not first time visitors. We like art, people-watching events, local neighborhood stuff, etc. Any ideas? Would love to hear from yoi!

Want to come watch my two year old and 6 month old?

Personally, I could visit the Impressionist section (and the Temple of Dendoor) at the Met every day. That, and a pastry at Payard on Lex. and 73rd would make for a few good hours.

Here's a link to what's going on. I think the Met will be closed. They're usually closed on Mon. There's a street fair on 3rd ave betw 34-42 & there's an outdoor art fair in Greenwich Village around Washington Square Park. http://www.ci.nyc.ny.us/html/cau/html/aug.html

How about going down to Soho for shopping, eating, art galleries? Or a movie-the Angelica theater on Houston is very NY.

The West Indian Day parade on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn (combine it with a visit to the Brooklyn Museum). The parade goes on rain or shine.

Forget about the Brooklyn Museum today. Because of the parade the Museum subway stop is closed today.

Stay in NYC...visit the Museum of Natural History. Spend the day with the dinosaurs.
