Any help on the Whitney, A Wyndham hotel in New Orleans and the area?

Made reservations at the Whitney at 610 Poydras in February. Has anyone stayed there recently who could give us a report on the condition of this hotel and on overall opinion of it. How's the area around it for walking and getting to the French Quarter and the Convention Center. Any transportation help would be appreciated. Again thanks for any help. Can't wait to experience New Orleans!

It is new but a good location in the Financial District of New Orleans. There are a number of Hotels close and good transportation. Walking to Harrah's should be easy and from there to the FQ. Cabs are available there all night and at Harrah's. It is much better than staying in the Quarter or the area near that are very dirty.

Well, the first suggestion is to forget all about Harrah's, as mentioned by the previous poster. Yes, you can walk to the Convention Center and the French Quarter from the Whitney. Plenty of great restaurants in the vicinty, also the Warehouse "arts" district is right behind you. D-Day museum close by. Cabs are plentiful and not expensive to the destinations you might chose. Do you need restaurant suggestions or are you otherwise engaged?

The Whitney is a nice renovation of an old bank building. The restaurant is very good, too. The area is fine and is typical of most downtown areas. Busy during the day and somewhat quiet (although not too much so) at night. The streetcars run nearby and cabs are inexpensive to the Quarter or Garden District, if you choose to visit either.
