Try Biricchino 260 W. 29th St. between 7th & 8th Ave - very good homade sausages, pretty good pastas, it gets crowded, so reserve ahead- 212-695-6690. gets a 20 for food in zagats.
The korean restaurants along 30th St. to 32th street are great for late night and exotic fare - try Kang Suh at 1250 Bway @ 32nd Street - delicious beef bbq.
Soul Fixins - delicious, very informal soul food (stunning fried chicken) on 34th between 8th & 9th.
Metro Fish - 36th St. bet. 5th & Madison , very well-prepared fish, a little pricy- around $40. per person - but a very nice, grown-up restaurant and within 2 short blocks and 2 long blocks.
As to walking - the previous poster had it nailed. NYers walk everywhere - less than 20 blocks is walking distance, more is cabbing. I had some friends visiting from Maryland this winter, staying at the Barclay. The three long blocks from the hotel to Times square was too much for them!!! They were exhausted! And we're not talking about unfit people - they just drive everywhere!

Isn't Foley's at the north end of Times Square?

Hi! Foley's fish house is in Times Square I believe in one of the hotels. I heard only amazing things about this restaurant! Again, enjoy.

Foley's is in the Renaissance hotel, north of Times Square. All around best view of Times Square, go at dusk and watch the lights come on. The food was good basic seafood, the trio of lobster tails were excellant.

I believe that the Tupelo Grill is more along the lines of a Ponderosa-type fast-foodish. Not quite a cafeteria but not a particularly nice place either.

They do advertise a 12oz T-bone for under $10.

Better to take a cab to Little Italy or So-Ho for a million fine options.

MM
