Any good luaus on Maui or Oahu?
My husband and I are planning on a Hawaii trip to Maui and Oahu with our three kids this August. Although my husband and I have been to Hawaii before, we've never brought our children. My 9-year old is especially excited about the trip. I'd like to go to a luau at least once on our trip and thought about going with the luau package at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Oahu - or else doing a separate luau dinner - can anyone recommend any good ones on either Maui or Oahu?
Hi Judy, Been to several and I'd recommend the PCC or the Old Lahaina Luau in Maui. The Old Lahaina is better but the PCC is a very nice day and the kids will get a taste of all the South Pacific region at the PCC.
Enjoy
Bart

Hi, on Maui I believe the consensus is that the Old Lahaina luau is the best, and having been there recently we thought it was very nice. It is expensive, but that includes a lot of food (buffet) and unlimited drinks, and the cultural presentation (narration, song and dance) seemed to us (us included kids) to be interesting and low on the tacky meter. The only mistake we made was scheduling it for an evening when we'd already had a long busy day; we were very sleepy at the end and eager to leave.

My husband and I tried to get into the Old Lahaina Luau on Maui because we had heard such wonderful things about it. Unfortunately, it was completely booked the whole time we were there. The lady at one of the activities centre suggested the luau at the Renaissance Wailea. We decided to try it and had a fabulous time. The food and entertainment were wonderful. I would definitely recommend it.

We went to 3 dif luaus in 3 dif islands and the Old Lahaina is definetly the best. You might want to check the front desk an hour before the luau starts, usually there's cancellations=) have a gr8 time!

Thanks everyone! I'll definitely look into the PCC in Oahu and Old Lahaina Luau on Maui - guess I should try to book in advance as well.

Judy, another good luau choice is Paradise Cove Luau on Oahu. They recently revamped their menu and it's really good! I went to the luau last October and I was so amazed at the incredible service & friendliness of the staff. And the sunset was just breathtaking. There's all sorts of games, arts & crafts for the kids, too.

Aloha
RE: The Old Lahaina Luau on Maui

It is by far the best Luau on the island
and can be booked as far as a year in advance, the sooner you book the better
seats you will have. If you really want
to do this Luau you need to book at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance. One other tip, choose table and chair seating over traditional seating where you sit on the ground cross legged. Think about it, no back support for you and you will be sitting that way for at least 3 hours. I don't think so.

JDP

We went to the Old Lahaina Luau on Maui in March and were very pleased with it. I reserved via their website and confirmed once we reached Maui. We had excellent seats, I would also recommend asking for table seating rather than tradtitional seating. The staff seemed to go out of their way to make sure that the children could see the show and were having a good time.

http://www.oldlahainaluau.com/

Hi:

I disagree with someone on the postings. I attended the Paradise Cove luau this past February and it was terrible. Long crowded tables on dirt, the entertainment was schlocky, and the bus ride took forever. Sorry, I just wanted other people not to make the same mistake my husband and I made.

Lottie Tagupa is back aka Hulagrrl!
Thought you might want to know.

I would also like to add my two cents worth about the Paradise Cove luau. In my opinion, don't bother. The food was terrible, we couldn't see the show, maybe we just had bad seats.

When I tried to take a picture of my daughter holding the parrots you would have thought I was doing a horrible crime, they all but took my camera away from me. They informed me that they are the only ones able to take pictures of this and than they want you to purchase them at a horrible price. But, guess making money is the name of the game.

We are going back to Hawaii in two weeks and have made reservations at the Old Lahaina Luau, have only heard good things about this one.

Judy,

I would like to recommend the luau at the Outrigger Wailea Resort on Maui. I attended this one in July of last year, had the best time! I know everyone says the Old Lahaina Luau is the best, and this may be true. But I was totally satisfied at the Outrigger. The setting is VERY nice, the food was really good with lots of choices, and the show was entertaining, especially the guy with the fire torches at the end.

I received 50% discount for myself and two friends from my AOA Gold Card membership, also.

Hope you have a great trip, and happy planning!

Sandi
I'm getting there...

Aloha! I live on Maui and agree that the Old Lahaina Luau is the best. The Luau at the Hyatt Regency in Kaanapali is also very good. I work at a hotel so I get to go to all of them for free so I know what I'm talking about. There is also a brand new Luau at the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua, I haven't been to that one yet, but I'm sure it is good too. Have a great time!
