Any favorite Budget Hotels in San Diego?
I'll be in San Diego next week and am looking for an interesting hotel for the one night I'll be there. I usually stay at a place in Coronado, but it's full that night.
I'll be taking care of some business most of the day, then flying to Texas the next morning at the crack of dawn, so somewhere between North Park, Coronado and the airport. Budget $200 or preferably less. Don't mind quirky, as long as it's clean.

for just one night, i'd just find a cheap place on motel circle. or i'd use priceline or one of those other hotel sites and make a bid for a hotel on shelter or harbour island. i don't know what "interesting" means to you. i thought of inn at sunset cliffs but it's very close to your budget just for a basic room.

For $200 you should be able to have a number of choices - and the best in the Hotel Circle area is probably the one the Inter-Continental took over - and then the Handlery, with the Town and Country 3rd.
But there is at least one neat B & B just a bit above Old Town - in a Victorian - called Heritage Park Inn - if they have space.

This one is by the Hotel Del. Stayed there a few times without going bankrupt (sorry I don't remember amounts)...

And my husband stayed in the Marriot Hotel downtown next to Petco Park - he got a good deal, he thought...

Have a look at La Avenida Inn on Coronado. It's across from Del Coronado and next door to the Glorietta Bay Inn ( which I highly recommend ) but the Glorietta Bay may be a bit more pricey than La Avenida www.laavenidainn.com

Soemone else said good things about the Sofia. Their web site is one of the worst ever, but I may call them.
nanabee, I thought the BR Inn was full up? I'd much prefer the younger crowd at that place if there is availability...

Lcuy - the Best Western on Fay in La Jolla is a quirky hotel - decent rates - dated but good location. I have a friend who stayed there about 6 months ago and is coming in on Sat for another week stay - I will be meeting her Monday (June 16) not sure if you need to know before then but I can take a look at the room etc...
