Any dangerous wildlife in Utah?
Are there any species of dangerous/poisonous animals to be aware of while hiking in Utah's Southern Parks? ie rattlesnakes, scorpions, spiders, bears, mountain lions...yikes

do people usually travel with snake anti-venom kits?

Thanks
croc
Yep! Except for the bears. Saw a BIG Tarantula in our campsite in Zion but the ranger said it wasn't poisonous. Other than that in the last 27 years I personally have never run across any dangerous wildlife in Utah. Did remember seeing cougar tracks in Capitol Reef National Park.

You can find out more about this subject at this web site:

http://www.desertusa.com/animal.html

Utahtea

By FAR the most dangerous animal you will encounter in southern Utah is another driver on the road -- MUCH more likely to kill you than all other animals combined.

The Red Cross does NOT recommend using snake bite kits unless you are a trained medical professional. The problem is that people tend to NOT do the proper treatment in the panic after the bite, and end doing more harm than good. And that other driver could be the most dangerous of them all...the Mormon with the 10 kids, busy overpopulating our planet....

Nothing wrong with being Mormon. Without alcohol, caffeine (how Coca Cola is OK is a puzzle to me but I digress), tobacco, and drugs they live a lot longer, look better and maintain their sex lives a lot longer that the rest of us. If they have 10 kids who cares. Maybe they could convert Japan to be Mormon and stop the population shrinkage.

I just think we owe it to future generations to leave this planet like we found it...it doesnt take a rocket scientist to realize that we only have so much room. Future generations will curse us all for our lack of foresight.

Joe - I usually let the Mormon bashing go without saying anything - but... isn't there enough hate and prejudice in the world. The anniversary of Sept. 11th is approaching - have we learned nothing.
