Any comments on the Edison Hotel?
 

I am planning a NYC Spring Break trip and I heard that the Edison was a nice budget hotel. I'm thinking about the Edison or Marriott Marquis *if I can shell out the $$$*

I didn't stay at the Edison on my last trip to NYC, but did stop by out of curiousity. It is a hotel that caters to tourist and usually has great prices. I thought it might be an option for another trip. It has a really lovely art deco lobby and a great location if you want to be close to Times Square. I didn't get a chance to see any of the rooms, but from what I have read in travel information, they have been up-dating the rooms and that they are nice and comfortable. I hope you can get someone who has stayed there to tell you more, I'm curious too.

It's been almost two years since we stayed at the Edison. At that time we found it to be a great location, safe, friendly, helpful staff and the rooms were fine. Not roomy, but clean. You won't spend much time in your room anyway, will you? I would definitely stay there again.

Ditto on the above comments; my husband and/or my daughter and I have stayed there two or three times and would do so again. It isn't deluxe but it's just fine, and the staff is great.

If you stay at the Edison be sure to eat in the coffee shop. It has the nickname of the Polish Tearoom instead of the Russian Tearoom. Neil Simon's new play takes place there.

The Edison is fine and in a great location if you're planning on seeing Broadway shows because you can walk to all the major theatres. I've stayed there many times, although not in the past year or so because I've been able to find better deals in the same area. They have a pretty good coffee shop downstairs with really great homemade soups. No room service though but it hardly matters since so many places deliver. Rooms are small but clean. Obviously the Marriott is nicer but the location is almost the same, so you have to figure out whether the extra $$$ is worth it, especially if you're not going to be spending much time in your room. <BR> <BR>Personally I have gotten the best deals on Priceline and that's what I use now for hotels in New York. You can get a nice 3-star in that same area for $75 or $85 a night (I have gotten the Hilton Times Square and the Novotel that way), or a 4-star for under $100 (many people have gotten the Marriott Marquis that way).

Just wanted to add my thumbs up for the Edison. Its a wonderful place, and some of the rooms are not small. They have all diffrent sizes. I promise you will be happy there. The best part for me is people watching. I swear, you get on an elevator and there are people from 5 diffrent countries on there with you.

Let's get real here. I've stayed at the Edison and it is in a good location, but it is not a "wonderful" hotel given the alternatives for less money on Priceline. Before I knew about Priceline I stayed at the Edison for $159. For that price, I was thrilled and didn't mind the hotel at all. However, the rooms are very basic and no more luxurious than a Travelodge. Now that I have started using Priceline, I've stayed at both the Marriott Marquis and the NY Hilton for less than $100/night and there is no comparison to the Edison. When I'm using Priceline I first look at the unofficial priceline bulletin board at www.biddingfortravel.com which has been very helpful in understanding how to bid and at what price I should expect to get my room.

The Edison Hotel is owned by the Rev. Sung Mung Moon and his church. I wonder if they use the names of guests for any of their mailings when the guests leave? <BR>Have any of you gotten any kinds of offers to join his church?

Joeyb, where do you get your information? I don't think the Rev Moon owns the Edison, I've never even seen any "Moonies" near there! I've met the owner, and he's not even Asian. They say there is so much misinformation on the internet. This seems to be a perfect example.

I have no idea if the Unification Church owns that hotel or not, but they own an awful lot of property in the US and some in Manhattan and their NY headquarters is very near the Edison, on 43rd St. So who is the owner, Mary? I notice the Edison's web page gives no info whatsoever as to who owns the hotel which is rather odd.

Before anyone starts thinking that joeyb or Lydia know what they're talking about, consider this: <BR> <BR>- Unification Church is at 4 W. 43, Edison Hotel is at 228 W. 47. It's not like they're neighbors. <BR> <BR>- At one time the Church owned the Hotel New Yorker, and still might, but that has nothing to do with the Edison either. <BR> <BR>Stay at the Edison, have a fun time in New York and pay no attention to rumors from the uninformed. <BR> <BR>Rumors, rumors, rumors. <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR>
