Any comments on the Cassa Hotel, NY?

We're thinking about taking a long weekend in NY in October and I'm looking for a hotel. The Cassa Hotel seems to fit our needs, is within our price range and gets good reviews but I'd be interested to know if any of the fodorites have stayed there or at least know of it. It's on 45th between 5th and 6th (I think).

Thanks
gtg

Viceroy is a respectable hotel group, but I don't have any personal experience. It does look good. I've even met the manager, who seems on the ball.

Standard rooms only have a double bed. Otherwise it,s good. http://www.oyster.com/new-york-city/...dences/photos/

A double bed? They still make those?

We have a double bed at home, so that won't be a problem and I expect the room to be small but it's only for 3 nights. We're tough -- we can take it! :)
Thanks for the input.

So your original question was really "can we survive this place if we're tough enough"? I guess the answer is yes.

The thing is, when I'm in a 200 square foot hotel room and I have my choice of a king, queen or double bed, since I'm used to sleeping in a double bed anyway why would I want a bed that just takes up space?

I'd rather have the double bed which makes the room seem larger than the king or queen which fills up most of the room. Not everyone's choice, I know -- some people are more comfortable in a bigger bed, but we're happy in a double.

Sorry, it wasn't just the size of the bed I was kidding about -- it was your comment "we're tough -- we can take it" that made me smile. That's not exactly a rave for any place -- we were tough enough to take it for only three nights! Makes me wonder how bad a place would have to be that tough people COULDN'T take it for three nights?

Oh, believe me, NP -- I've been reading reviews and there are plenty of places (even supposedly upscale ones) that I'm not tough enough to take for even one night! :(

The bed thing wss just a general comment. In my early traveling days, I used to opt for the king bed because it was unique for us and seemed like a luxury. It took years of doing that before I realized that the real luxury was the space around the bed, not the bed itself.
