Any celebrity-encounter stories???

Just curious... I was visiting my sister-in-law last week (she live in Malibu). I was supposed to cook dinner one night. Seeing that her fridge was emtpy, she gave me directions to a "Ralphs" supermarket. So I went. While there I ran into Tony Dow (Wally from leave it to Beaver). Nice, nice guy...looks just like Wally, only a bit older. After leaving, I noticed a newsstand store a few doors down. So I stopped to buy some magazines. I ran into Tom Hanks! He was riding his bike eating an ice-cream cone! Cool guy--he waved when I honked.

Hello Don. I was curious, too, so I asked the question "have you ever bumped into a famous person while travelling?" You'd be amazed how many have! Here, I'll top it for you.

The interesting thing about living in L.A. is that this always happens, and we've gotten pretty blaze about it. Mostly in supermarkets too. Rob Lowe last week in Century City, but frankly, I was more interested in finding a decent cantaloupe!

I will say that my usual who cares attitude fell out the window shortly before Jack Lemmon died when he walked up to me and my kid (also a big fan of his) in the parking lot at Westside Pavillion shopping mall and politely asked me if I could tell him the time.

Jamie Lee Curtis parks in one of my company's parking structures (her kids have activities in the area-- cute kids too!). One morning, I'm waiting at the elevator and she comes up with her teenage-ish kids. Looking rather normal, pretty woman in her early forties, great shape-- it sure LOOKS like her (didn't know if it was her or not), but I couldn't be sure. She felt me looking intently at her, and she simply smiled and said softly, "Yeah, it's me."

If I'd had more composure, I'd have smiled and said, "I was pretty sure, Lady Baden-Guest" (she's a British Peer of the Realm by marriage), just to see if it registered. But I thought her reaction was quite classy, all things considered.

In the 50's I was flying from LA to Chicago on the Super Connie which had a lounge in the rear of the plane. I was sitting there reading a magazine and Jimmy Durante sits down next to me. We visited for an hour or so. Nicest guy you ever want to meet.
When we landed, my dad was meeting me at the airport, a great fan of Jimmy's. I scurried off the plane and introduced my dad to Jimmy. They hugged and chatted for a few minutes. One of the highlights of my dad's memories.

On a trip to Block Island, RI, during the early spring, we took a walk to a lighthouse at the bluffs. The only person we encountered was pleasant and tipped his baseball cap and said "good morning", and I recognized it was Christopher Walken. Later that day our server at a local restaurant said that he happens to own a house out there.
