antelope canyon and surrounding area

Am trying to decide the best time of year to visit Antelope Canyon. I read that the busiest time is April through September, but if I would choose to go end of September into October, is there concern about bad weather that would prevent us from getting into the canyon?
Also, we love hiking, so was wondering what else is in the area to hike? Have already done south rim entrance of Grand Canyon (South Kaibob and Bright Angel) and have hiked quite a bit in Utah. Would love to hear suggestions about Antelope Canyon and areas.

The weather is great in September/October. The key to Antelope Canyon is to be there when there is plenty of sunshine. Probably best near noon, but we were there after noon and got ok pictures.

While in the Page area you might like one of the smooth water raft trips on the Colorado River from Glen Canyon Dam to Lees Ferry. Or walk out to Horseshoe Bent (best early in the day).
Or a boat ride on Lake Powell, perhaps up to Rainbow Bridge.

If you want to see some pictures of Antelope Canyon in the afternoon you can go to

Late September into October should be beautiful weather, with little chance of rain.

As suggested by emalloy, visit Horseshoe Bend. I prefer later in the morning. If you go early, much of the bend will be in shadow, which can make pictures difficult with the contast between shadow and sunlight. You don't want to go in the afternoon. The later you go, the more problem there will be with the sun in your face.

Can't help with hikes in the area.

The single best time for any slot canyon is when the sun is directly overhead. Think summer solstice.

Hiking in Utah - I recommend the book: > Hiking from here to Wow Utah Canyon Country <. It is for the average hiker unlike books by Kelsey, which I use extensively.

Thank you for all your input. Need to do a little more reading about the area.

If you are not 100% focused on Antelope canyon, may I suggest Buckskin Canyon also in Arizona. IT is a serious hike unlike a mild stroll into antelope.

They reference Middle Trail exit/entry - that is a good option. I have GPS location if you decide that route after researching
