Another Success with Delta Sky Miles to Hawaii.

The night before last I was unsuccessful in my attempt to obtain tickets for our family with Sky Saver miles. I guess more people want to fly on a Monday than I thought. ;) Interestingly enough there were plenty of first class seats but I was limited by the meager number of my miles. Last night, just at midnight, I tried again. I called a number that I knew would keep me with a reservationist in this country. Unfortunately I was put on old. I called the main number on my cell phone and while there were some "communications" problems and my overwhelming fear that I would loose the connection, I got the seats. 3 coach, two first class from BDL TO ATL TO CVG TO HNL. I don't mind flying south to end up in Cinncinatti but I did request to be waitlisted for the flight from BDL to CVG. If it doesn't happen, I am fine with that. Now 17 days later, I need to repeat the process so I can get home. It seems the last two times we went, it was easier to get the tickets to fly out, but then I could have been lucky. Ideally I would like to fly out of Maui but since there is only one flight from Maui and three from HNL, I am concerned about "wasting" time looking. I think I will try Maui one night. If it doesn't work, I can do HNL the second night as a first option and we will just be "forced" to stay a little longer in Hawaii. I can think of worse things.

You don't say whene you are traveling, but there is a new ATL-OGG nonstop that would be much better than your current CVG ping-pong. Just announced six days ago, so it has lots of seats on lots of days. Just got two business elite seats for Dec 31-Jan 6 on this, and it's the newer much improved configuration for a two level "first" class - - 60" pitch with the new "upgraded" seats (see seatguru.com for details or also flyertalk which has a lot of REALLY frequent flyers and know this stuff far bettr than I).

Best wishes,

Rex

Hi Rex, We are going August 8th 2006. We are really still locked in by school vacations and since it takes so long to save the miles, we generally stay 2 and a half weeks. I don't mind the ping pong so much, and we had planned on staying at the Hale Koa for 3 days anyway and making Maui our last stop. I think we will put Kauai in the middle. I am considering the Poipu area this time. We loved the North Shore but a different view will be nice also.

The Hale Koa is my favorite laid back place to stay in Waikiki. It's a true military benefit in the first degree! I've seen some people complain that it's far from a first class resort, but at that location and those low prices, why would anyone expect it to be?

Postal, I have to tell you honestly that I have enjoyed every stay that I have had there. It is so much more personal and friendly. The guests are friendly. We have sat out by the pool and have total strangers buy a round of drinks. The affordability lends itself to that. Its a easy walk next door to the Hilton Hawaiian Village and my first impression when we walked over was; "I am glad I am at the Hale Koa"! I have also been to a few luaus ;) including the Hyatt's and the Marriotts. The Hale Koa's luau is just about "there" with regard to food and entertainment and for less than half of the price. Where can you have a steak dinner for around $10 on Waikiki Beach?
