Another question re. seattle trip
 

As per last Slow walker post, thanks for all the advice; the plumbing issue at the edgewater unnerves me.
WE are wondering about a day trip up to wine country around chateau St michelle. Is the Salish Lodge dining room an experience to try for on our return?
Is the Tillicum Island trip worth it?

If I could find one, I was going to send you a link to a newspaper story about the Edgewater's problem....but neither Seattle newspaper mentions it. Not to worry.

IMHO the Tillicum Village trip is well worth it. Can't comment on the Salish Lodge because I haven't eaten there for years.

Salish Lodge offers what you can get at dozens of places in downtown Seattle, including the well-regarded (and expensive) dining room at the Edgewater. The promised view of the falls is for only a few tables.

Snoqualmie Falls is very nice. You can see quite a bit from the public observations decks without much walking. The restaurant is expensive, but there's also a snack bar in the gift shops. Or stop for lunch in one of the towns you'll drive thru on your way back to Seattle, if you're in your own car.

I haven't been to Tillicum Island but people seem to like it. I'm not sure what kind of mobility is involved.

as far as Salish goes if you are heading there for the view of the falls then yes it is very pretty. but if you are going for a great meal stay in Woodinville for dinner and eat at the Barking Frog which is right in the middle of all the wineries. And order the salmon so you don't have to go to Tillicum! (I've never been so I'm kidding but I hear it is over the top touristy)

Salish Lodge is not near the wineries. To get to the wineries from Seattle, you would go over the 520 bridge and head to Woodinville. To get to the Salish Lodge, you would go over the I-90 bridge towards Snoqualmie. Snoqualmie has a waterfall, outlet shopping at a nearby exit, and the Summit at Snoqualmie ski area a bit further west. If you want to head in that direction, a fun day trip might be Leavenworth (probably two hours from Seattle)which is a Bavarian style town, very touristy but still in gorgeous scenery. YOu can also go white water rafting there if you are up for an adventure. In Woodinville, be warned that you can tour the Chateau Ste. Michelle winery but that they don't grow any grapes there...all are grown in eastern washington. The few wineries that do grow grapes are open on sporadic schedule so you would probably want to check. I agree Barking Frog is very good...at Willows Lodge in Woodinville.

stormygirl, I would not characterize Tillicum Village as "touristy," whatever that means. I think it is understated and very well done.

good to know Bob, I have just always heard and read that it is an overpriced tourist trap. I have never enjoyed productions like that (I'm thinking luaus and the such) for the same reason. I guess it is all a matter of opinion.
