Another Madison WI question
 

We'll be staying at the Mansion Hill Inn on Pinckney in a couple weeks for the Drum Corp. Internation Finals to cheer on my son.

I'd like dinner suggestions for the immediate area(either walking distance or a couple miles driving distance is fine)for good food and service and a quiet romantic atmosphere.

L'Etoile is on "the Square" and overlooks the state capital. It has some of the best food around. You'll need reservations and do request a window seat.

I know you said that you want to be close to your B&B but our favorite restaurant is Lousiannes. It is about 5 miles west of the Drum Corps activities but not hard to find. I think it has a lot of ambiance, its romantic and the cajun food is wonderful. They have jazz some nights. Well worth the drive if you have the time and transportation. Again, you'll need reservations, especially with the Drum Corps in town.

Your B&B ought to be able to give you other great downtown selections as well. They've been around here for quite a while.

amwosu: I think this is your most recent post so I am hoping you'll come back here to see this. Did you know that you are quoted in the Fodors Arizona 2006 book? I saw it yesterday at Barnes and Noble. It is a quote about Pinnacle Peak. Look at the pages at the start of the chapters to find it.

Just wanted to follow up on my trip to Madison. We had a great time at the Mansion Hill Inn and I would definitely stay there again.

We ate lunch at the Glass Nickel which serves wonderful pizza. I had the Fetalicious which was a wonderful gooey mess of veggies and feta atop a great crust. It seemed to be a popular place as it was still busy well after the lunch hour on a weekday.

We had a wonderful dinner at L'Etoile sitting at the window looking over the State Capital grounds. I appreciate all of the locally grown produce and meats they use and list on the back of the menu.

We started with a welcome bite from the chef, a homemade hickory cracker spread with a blue cheese pate. Next was a shot of melon soup, sweet prosecco wine floating atop finely chopped cantelope in juice.

We shared a bison tartare drizzled with pesto olive oil paired with a small breadstick of sorts wrapped in prosciutto.

My entree was an eggplant Napoleon (think fancy French Eggplant Parmesan) and DH had a tasty 6 oz. sirloin and whipped potatos topped with a butter of bone marrow and blue cheese.

To finish I had blueberry creme brulee and DH had fried doughnuts (think State Fair food) accompanied by creme Anglaise and a warm fruit compote.

I liked the French sized portions rather than typical American style portions that I can't finish.
