Another downtown Seattle dining question
 

Had another friend suggest these 4 places so thought I would put them before the board. <BR>A) Oceanaire<BR>B) Brooklyn<BR>C) Union Grill<BR>D) Tulios<BR><BR>Thanks again

I can only speak first hand in regards to two. <BR><BR>Brooklyn- Fantastic seafood and steaks. Really the best oyster bar in town. Great wines, beers and scotch also. Good location kitty corner from the Museum, good happy hour.<BR><BR>Union Grill- Definatly a meat place. Very good chops. The atmosphere is &quot;banker business&quot;. Not one of my top ten but better than most!

Haven't been to Oceanaire yet (too new, too many dollars required) but have been told it's excellent.<BR><BR>Ditto Wendy on the B'lyn and Union Grill - think red. Tulio's is also very good.<BR><BR>All 4 places are somewhat business-crowd oriented but highly regarded.

We drive up from Portland (2.5 - 3 hrs.) just to eat at Wild Ginger.

Well Angstprone, don't leave us hanging. Your next line could be, &quot;and it was a complete waste of time and money&quot; or it could be &quot;and it was the experience of a lifetime&quot;. Don't keep us in suspense or we will all be prone to angst!!

None of the above. I live locally and would not pick any of these. Instead: Chez Shea, Rovers, Dahlia Lounge, Georgian Room. These are among the best in the area, but there are others.

Rhardy5554 you are comparing restaurants with a $500 bill for 2 (Rovers) to those with a $100 bill for 2 (Brooklyn, Union Grill, Dahlia, etc.)<BR><BR>Hardly the same catagoy I think. Just my opinion.<BR><BR>Wendy

I can second for Wild Ginger and Dahlia Lounge.

I second the Wild Ginger and Dahlia Lounge recommendations. The Dahlia Lounge is nice for northwest food. You may also wish to try Zoe's or the Flying Fish in Belltown for other good restaurants similar in price and somewhat in style to the Dahlia lounge. (The Flying fish is mainly seafood but with similar northwest touches to Dahlia's). <BR><BR>For finer dining - you may wish to try Cascadia or Le Mistral in Belltown or Campagne in Pike Place Market. <BR><BR>The Union Grill is a steak house - nice if you want a steak but you'll be disappointed if you're visiting from New York etc.

Rover's is expensive, but nothing like $500 for 2! Prix fixe dinner is in $50-$75 range normally. If you go crazy with the wine list, though, the sky is the limit!

Rhardy, I just had dinner there in December and our bill was $470. We had 2 half bottles of wine (nothing outrageous)with our Grand menu Degustation ($125 pp). We also each had a glass of champagne before dinner.<BR><BR>Not trying to be a pain but I just think it's a bit off to compare this to say Dahlia. brooklyn changed hands last fall and the menu is becoming a little more asian fusion influenced but it is still a great place to eat. if you watch your wine consumption, you can get out for $60 at lunch. a note of warning- campagne is not open for lunch during the week. why not call up the seattle weekly website anbd check out their dining reviews.

If you want to eat well, and don't mind spending cash, don't do any of the above. Go for Canlis Steakhouse instead.<BR><BR>But if you want to spend a little less, the Union Grill is the best of your four. Oceanaire is too mainstream. Brooklyn is mediocre. Tulios is not an option in my book.
