Anniversary trip to Atlanta - restaurants, activities

Hello all,
Awhile back I wrote asking for hotel advice for Atlanta. Thanks for your help. We are going to Atlanta for our anniversary but we got a package deal and will be staying at the Georgia Terrace Hotel. We will be going to the aquarium and a Braves game. I would also like to go to the botanical garden and the park (although the name escapes me). I am interested in anyone who has stayed at the hotel recently, as well as restaurant suggestions for any area close to the hotel, aquarium or stadium. I've searched a bit but I don't know where a lot of those places are so I will have to do some more research. Any other activities that we shouldn't miss? We love the outdoors, hiking, etc. Thanks so much for your help!

Close to the hotel @ 659 Peachtree NE

Baraonda Cafe Italian0 - at the corner of the block at 3rd Street - good Italian - wood fired pizzas - everyone is usually pleased with food and service

Pleasant Peasant - 2 blocks south at 555 Peachtree - very nice dining, very good food, one of my favorites in Atlanta

Mary Mac's Tea Room - 3 blocks east - 224 East Ponce de Leon - an Atlanta institution - southern cooking, great veggies

Eno Restaurant & Wine Bar - 2 blocks north - 800 Peachtree - well reviewed, including this board - I've not eaten there yet

Spice - 793 Juniper - 2 blocks north and then 1 block east (right) to Juniper - very nice

Across the street from Spice -
Avra Greek Tavern - 794 Juniper - well reviewed on this board
MuLan - 824 Juniper - very good Chinese
Mitra - 818 Juniper - GREAT reviews - I've not eaten there yet

Toast - 6th and Cypress
Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant - 848 Ptree @ 6th - good beer and bar food
Globe - 75 5th street - great space, food varies, my mussels & frittes were good

Little Azio's - 903 Ptree - GREAT casual Italian - order at the counter and they bring to you inside or outside
Noodle's - shares outside patio with Little Azio's
Gold Star Cafe & Bakery - ditto
This is a good cluster of 3 casual restaurants next to one another if different taste buds are calling

Be sure to stop at Krispy Kreme for hot donuts on your way out to Stone Mtn.

I eat at one of the above restaurants every Sunday after church. There are others, but these are very good, consistent options in walking distance from your hotel.

I haven't stayed in the hotel in a few years but I always enjoyed my stay there.

Oh, wander in the lobby of the Hotel Indigo and have a drink in their funky lobby.

If there is a function at the Fox Theatre during your stay, be sure to go.

On Saturday mornings you can do a one hour walking tour of the Fox for $10. Amazing.

When is your trip? There's a great exhibit at the Botanical Garden that closes in April. I'm going on a private tour by the artist this Sunday.

Don't eat by the stadium.

Don't have any real favorites by the Aquarium, although the food there is pretty good. Stop by the CNN Center for food court options and a few restaurants.

You need no other advice. Starrsville is right on, as always!

How sweet, sweettea! Thank you!

That part of Atlanta has become "my neck of the woods". I'm there a lot - and often am planning group events within walking distance. And, we like to eat.

Another new option near Gordon B is "Fresh2Go". Again, order at the counter and they bring your food to you. Good food at lower prices.

That part of Midtown is experiencing mega growth with condos, etc. It's a far cry from the Peachtree of just a few years ago. LOTS of restaurant options in walking distance.

Thank you very much, Starrsville! We are looking forward to our trip. You gave us a lot of great choices. We plan on getting our aquarium tickets early and definitely plan on the botanical garden. Our trip is in mid-April.

Oh, you'll just miss the Frabel exhibit -

But, you may be just in time for one of Atlanta's best festivals -
http://www.dogwood.org/

The Dogwood Festival is back at Piedmont Park. Dogwoods in bloom in Atlanta - it doesn't get much better that that! :-)

If you go, eat at Einsteins or Joe's on Juniper (next to one another on Juniper near the park).
