Anniversary Get Away

My husband and I want to take a 3 night trip to celebrate our anniversary. We thought New Mexico or Arizona would be great, but we are not sure where in either place to go. We want someplace secluded with neat things to do and look at. Any suggestions?

Scottsdale, or Sedona for Az.

Marie,
I have just the place for you to celebrate a romantic anniversary in Sedona, AZ..."L'Auberge de Sedona" a French country inn and/or separate cottages along the creek. Your choice. Beautifully decorated. Great restaurant on the premises. You won't be disappointed in this place!
Hubby and I recently ret from New Mexico from a motor trip and between the two states you mentioned, Sedona IS the place.
Good luck. Coco

Thank you for the suggestions! Has anyone been to Mesa, AZ? I was looking at it on the web and it looked neat. We will be going in December, so we want some place that will be warm.

sedona is really nice. i was there one christmas and the days were nice and the nights cooled off nicely.
mesa is just outside of phoenix - yuck in my opinion. however if you like to golf and just want to lay by a pool, i guess it would work but i certainly wouldn't say anythings romantic about it.

Yes, Mesa is a Phoenix burb. Nothing special, but I'm not a big fan of Phoenix, anyway. I happen to love Santa Fe and of the places you mentioned that would be the place I would choose for a romantic getaway. It's cooler, temperature wise than Arizona and it is unique and artsy. Some great restaurants there, as well.

Mesa is definitely NOT a "get away" destination! It is a plain old suburb of Phoenix. If you'd like to visit a suburb of Phoenix, Scottsdale is where you want to be. Much more to see & do, places to eat, shop, etc. And nice places to stay. However, since you are looking for someplace secluded, I would suggest the Boulders, which is actually about 20 miles north of Scottsdale in Carefree. It is the definition of secluded! And absolutely GORGEOUS! However, you'll have to be sure to rent a car, or else you'll be stuck there for 3 days eating in the resort restaurant and shopping in the resort gift shops!

Marie, it's me again, my second post on this subject.
Agreeing with the other posts...Mesa is not the place you would want to celebrate a secluded 3-night anniversary trip. Forget about it.
The Boulders is very posh and very secluded located up in Carefree. That is another good choice, but I still recommend L'Auberge de Sedona in Sedona.
Another place located in the Tucson area is "Lowe's Ventana Inn." You may also want to check this one out on the web.

Marie,

My husband and I are taking a 3 night trip to Arizona in Novmeber to celebrate our 15th anniversary. We're spending our first night at Royal Palms Resort & Casitas (www.royalpalmshotel.com) in Scottsdale. They have a nice romance package deal. From there we're driving to Sedona for a couple of nights at Enchantment Resort (www.enchantmentresort.com). I spent some time trying to decide between Enchantment and L'Auberge. Enchantment was highly recommended by several people on this board.

If you end up in Sedona, be sure to take the hike up the west fork of Oak Creek. There is a parking lot at the trail head and expect to get your feet wet. Also, if you do get to Sedona, take a drive up to Jerome, just south of Sedona, an old mining town, first taken over by artists, now, maybe a few too many tourists, but still a neat place with spectacular views.
