Anniversary dinner in Las Vegas, Stratosphere ?
 

In Vegas in August for anniversary & looking for a romantic not overly expensive dinner. Any reviews on the Stratosphere?

The Top of the Tower at the Strat can be very romantic but it is not inexpensive. The food is just average but rather pricey. I remember the menu lacking a lot of variety, as well. The view, especially at night, can't be beat.

How about Hugo's downtown? That's very romantic and, while not cheap, not unreasonable.

I took my wife there for her birthday dinner about 3 months ago. The food and service were excellent as was the view. All seats have great views and the room rotates so you'll get to see all of Vegas at some point during the meal. I got prime rib which was one of the best I've had anywhere (and I've had a lot of them), but I can't recall what my wife had but I know she really enjoyed it. We also split a dessert which was good and a bottle of moderately priced wine (I think @ $40). Our total bill including tip came to $225. I have seen some reviews about the restraunt being just average as far as the food goes (as Ethel mentioned earlier) but that was not the case for us. Also, their menu is available online which lists prices that look like what I saw on the real menu. Just google top of world stratosphere. The restaurant has its own site with lots of details.

What qualifies as overly expensive?
The Top of the World restaurant at the Strat is a great choice for a romantic dinner with a view. Even though it can get a bit expensive, the prices are in line with any upscale restaurant that I think you would consider.

One of my favorite restaurants with a view is the Voodoo Cafe and Lounge at the Rio. It is on the 50th floor of the Rio and has a roof deck with a great view of the Strip. In August, the evening weather should be perfect for some time on the deck.

It's a great place for anniversary dinner or any special occasion. We had after wedding dinner for our son in a private room (TofW food/$50 ea) and it was outstanding. Last year we celebrated a special birthday for our daugter at the restaurant. The bill (appetizer/entree/veg/glass of wine/shared dessert) was around $200 for 3 of us. Food and service were excellent, view unbeatable. Go for it!

Just came back from the Stratosphere, you may or may not want to read my review :o). Type in Stratosphere and it should come up. Personally would suggest upgrading. The top of the tower was beautiful and romantic...but...did not eat there. Happy Anniversary!
