Annapolis Restaurant Suggestions for Lunch

We are going to Eastern Shore of MD for a long weekend Easter weekend, staying in Easton.

On our way home Monday March 24th, we thought we'd try to have an early lunch in Annapolis.

Was looking at Carroll's Creek. Like that it is on the water and has it's own parking, which I know is hard to find downtown.

Anyone know of this restaurant or have other suggestions? We don't want anything really fancy or pricey. (Under $50 for 2)

I have not been to Carroll's Creek yet, but I always hear good things about it.

You will not have any trouble finding a restaurant. It's so much fun to walk Main Street and choose one. I like Cafe Normandie, Griffin's (now has a new name, maybe someone else can help out here) Buddy's (with kids only for me), Ram's Head. Actually, the only place I never cared for was Harry Browne's.

Anyone familiar with Riordians or
Cantleers Creek?
Friends' recommend both and we'll
be in the area next week.
Any other fun places in the
historic area, with good fresh
(although not in season?)crab?
Have been to Buddy's and prefer
something different.
Thank you.

Hey again wanderer1 -- Cantler's is our favorite in Annapolis and one of our favorite crab houses ever. It is not, however, in the historic district. It does have parking and as long as you bring the directions isn't too hard to find. It would be our choice.

Thanks, we will check it out.
Any other ideas?

Our favorite restaurant in Annapolis is Cafe Normandie. It is a French bistro right on the main street and has nice ambiance. $50 will easily cover lunch for two - they have a variety of filled crepes that make a meal ranging in price from $12 for a veggie filled crepe to 17 for one filled with seafood. Other entrees range from 17 to the low 20s. Their onion soup is outstanding. The city parking garage is just around the corner. Just down the street is Chick and Ruth's Delly which has more than just the usual deli fare. It is not fancy at all, but has a good deli atmosphere and is very popular with good prices. Another restaurant in Annapolis that we go to often is Galway Bay. As its name implies it has Irish country specialties and is very good (love the bread pudding). It is also well within your price range - a bit less than Cafe Normandie and is located about 1/2 block from the State House.

Be aware that the downtown Annapolis waterfront is under construction and fenced off.

We had the best crab cakes ever at Riordans--not fancy at all but great food. We loved Buddy's also--yummy crab chowder. There is another place that we enjoyed that was in an old tavern and had a log fire burning. It was right in the heart of things but can't remember the name.

That was probably Middleton's Tavern.

Personally don't find Carrol's Creek worth the money, but the view is good. Lewne's and Rockfish are closeby and excellenth. Osteria 177 on Main St is fairly new, but great. Griffins is now Federal House I think. Cantler's Creek is a very good local restaurant, but a little hard to find.Piccola Roma on Main St has a very consistent history and nice ambiance.

Just don't go to Phillips!!

basingstoke2 Mar 12th, 2008 10:25 AM

has Phillips reopened? Last I passed by they were shut for renovations.

GeorgeW Mar 12th, 2008 10:50 AM

Rockfish.

wanderer1 Mar 12th, 2008 02:32 PM

Does Piccola Roma serve lunch?

Mincepie Mar 13th, 2008 07:46 AM

Sorry, Piccola Roma does not open forlunch and Phillips is renovating.

Check out the Rams Head Tavern. http://www.ramsheadtavern.com/annapolis/index.html

Also love the Ram's Head, especially the Tavern Ale, although wanderer1 might want to be closer to the water?

If you'd like a restaurant on or near the harbor then you'd probably like :
Riordans (pub food and seafood),
Maria's (Italian),
Middletons Tavern (pub food and seafood)
Frannie O'brien's ( pub and seafood)
Pussers - Marriott waterfront) ($$$)
McGarveys (seafood)
Chart House (seafood) ($$$)
Rockfish Seafood
Davis' Pub (Laidback Eastport pub - great crab cakes & shrimp)

Kent Narrows (just before the Bay Bridge on your return from eastern shore)

The Narrows
Harris' Crab House

I live in Annapolis and am on eastern shore weekly and these are some of my favorites.

Don't even try to find Cantler's. It will be more fun downtown anyway.

GeorgeW Mar 14th, 2008 04:24 AM

The Narrows is an excellent choice. Probably the best restaurant in Queen Anne's County. Hemingways just off the Bay Bridge isn't bad and has a great view. Haven't eaten there for years, however.

will be in Annapolis in early May, first time to USA and have always wanted to have breakfast out... where'd be the best place for breakfast, do you think?

any other tips?

LN Mar 20th, 2008 02:05 PM

Sure what part of Annapolis will you be in? Or would you prefer breakfast down near the city docks or on Main Street? Price???

Let us know what you're interested in seeing and we'll try to help.
