Annapolis MD Accomodations
 

Looking for a place to stay in Annapolis within walking distance of the waterfront area for one night for 2 adults in June while my daughter attends orientation at College Park. Looking for something a little romantic and historic. I have found several places on-line but my fear is that in getting historic you sacrifice comfort. Any recommendations?

There's a great historic inn within two blocks of the water but I don't remember the name!! Be sure to eat at Phillips, which is on the waterfront. Their premium crab cakes are the best!! Annapolis is a great place to explore.

I would recommend The Calvert House on State Circle or the Maryland Inn. For a nice waterview try the Marriott. All three are right in the middle of everything. Great brunch at Treaty of Paris at MD Inn. High tea at Reynold's Tavern on Church Circle. Lots of small B&B's throughout the center of town, but I don't know one from the other (I work here). Annapolis is very small so everything in town is easy walking distance to historic properties, State house, shopping, Naval Acadmemy.

Forgot to add a note on dining - Philips does not properly showcase local seafood, though it has a nice location. I prefer O'Leary's or Carrol's Creek in Eastport (just across the water) for seafood. Picolo Roma nice italian on Main Street. OB's Prime is nice but very pricey for a chic steakhouse dinner. Marriot has a lovely dinning room and bar literally right on the water.

State House Inn is in a beautiful spot looking at the state capitol. You can find a good selection of B & B's on Annapolis B & B's.

If you'd like a hotel - then the Marriott is on the water and is the only local hotel on the water. Loew's is much newere but I'd prefer to be down on Ego Alley where you can walk around and visit all the neat little shops. There's lots of great little restaurants there too. I had lunch at Griffins today and it was super - cream of crab soup and a crab quiche with salad. Annapolis is a small town, only about 70-80 thousand people and it still has its cobblestone roads. You'd love how easy it is to walk the two blocks over to the Naval Academy too.

As far as the Univ of Maryland goes - your daughter will probably love it especially if she likes a large school. Two of my daughters graduated from there and did well as well as enjoyed their time there.

My mom, 2 grown sisters & I stayed at the Inn at Spa Creek b&b across the water in Eastpoint. It's across from Carroll's Creek. We walked everywhere in Annapolis from there. Wonderful folks, great accomodations, private. Could be romantic I am sure!

Riordans down by the dock has more local flavor than Phillips (more touristy).
In Eastport (not walking distance but you can do the water taxi) is the Boatyard- very casual place that is good for drinks and appetizers, great salads, and a really brunch choices on Sunday.

I can't help with an inn because I've only ever stayed at Loew's on West street which was nice. A longer walk to downtown but doable. And there are several nice restaurants and shops on that same street.
