Annapolis
 

My family and I are spending a weekend in Annapolis for a wedding in May, and we are thinking of spending an extra day there to relax and site-see. What would you recommend doing? Thanks!

There is a tourist information office near Church Circle and on the city dock where you can get info about tours around town. There are lots of historic properties that can be visited as well as the Naval Academy. You can also take boat trips around Spa Creek, the Severn River and into the Bay.

Have lunch at the Rams Head. It's not in the downtown area, but a few blocks away. Good food, and they make their own beer. The cellar area is kinda rustic -- don't bump your head.

If you start at church Circle you can wind your way down Main street and then up to State Circle and take in the State's capitol, the William Paca house and many other noteworthy sights.

You can then venture over into Eastport, which suceded from Annapolis and has a great rivallry going on. Eastport is a great sailing village.

The Academy is at least a few hours of sightseeing and next to it is St John's College - a great liberal arts school.

I highly recommend eating at Carol's Creek. It is directly across the harbor from downtown Annapolis. The view of the city and the Naval Academy is great. And the food is exceptional. Be sure to try the she-crab soup, and they had a really good chocolate dessert.

It can also be interesting to head over across the Bay to St Michaels; it's an old bay fishing port town with some interesting shops and restaraunts.

I've been to Annapolis a few times and really like it a lot. The Carroll Mansion, Paca House, and the Hammond-Harwood house are all nice to tour. Walking tours, harbor cruises and the Naval Academy are all nice. Regarding restaurants I liked Middletons, Maria's,
Governors Grille and Reynolds Tavern.

Downtown Annapolis is wonderful. Go inside of the Naval Academy Chapel and stroll the downtown streets as previous travelers have advised. The Chart House restaurant on the Eastport side of the bridge has a wonderful lounge right on the water (literally) and has a good lounge menu. It is very comfortable to watch the boats. Griffin's Restaurant downtown has great casual dining. Most of the downtown restaurants are very good. Joss's on Main Street has excellent sushi. Take a boat tour (available at City Dock) or a water taxi ride which is very inexpensive ( just ell the driver you want to ride around with him). You can catch it at the City Dock, just ask anyone. For breakfast, Einstein's Bagels is fun and if you sit at the window you can people watch and see the water. Have fun!
