Anna Maria Island--is north end "too" quiet?

A group of 8 ladies are trying to decide between two weekly rentals on Anna Maria Island. One is on the north end and one is in the Bradenton area. This is for early June, so I don't think either place will be very crowded yet. We like a laid-back atmosphere and pretty beaches, but also like to be able to walk to restaurants or cafes, small shops, maybe even a local bar. So our question is...is the north end of this island too quiet for us, or will we find a few places that are walkable? We will have vehicles, but love the feel of an area with a small walkable business area. And just how touristy is the Bradenton area? It sounds like we will find more walkable places there, but will we be inundated with mini-golf and fudge shops?

I don't remember mini golf anywhere on the island. The north end is cuter and where you will find the fudge shop. I'd stay on the north end.
