Animal Kingdom Hotel ?

I've heard about the new Animal Kingdom Hotel in Orlando. Has anyone first hand experience there? If you have seen it, or stayed there, please tell me about it! Thanks.

I have not stayed there (yet) but will be in January. I work w/ a lady who has toured the facility (including rooms) and told me it's very nice, the rooms are on the small side (even by Disney standards) and it has a great pool. The only down side I've read about on the internet is the small rooms and the buses (at least when it first opened) seemed to run less frequently then some of the other hotels.

How does it compare to the Wilderness Lodge? I love that layout! Can you see safari animals from the rooms?
Go to WDWIG.com for your info. Go to the section on resorts. It will have FAQ's and photos. According to the Disney Travel Board on Family.com, everyone who's stayed there has loved it.

I have not been myself, although a friend of my mother's at work told her that you can look out your window/balcony and see giraffes almost close enough to touch. I would assume you could see other animals as well.

John,

We stayed there about two weeks ago and liked it very much. But you need to book a savannah room in order to see the animals 24hrs a day. (You can actually look out your window at any time of night and see them grazing by moonlight.) Also, the African atmosphere and surroundings at the hotel are most enjoyable. Over the years, we've stayed at almost every Disney property at WDW, and this is among our favorites. I'd recommend it.

Gerry K

I live in Orlando, and although I am a "Disney hater" along with many others in Orlando (especially people who have worked there), I really enjoy the buffet dinner at BOMA at Animal Kingdom Lodge. It's especially nice to stroll along the "savannah" before and after the meal. I haven't seen the rooms but if I was going to stay at Disney, I'd like to stay there.

I took my hubby there for his 50th birthday in early Sept. We had a savannah room and did see the animals. Giraffe, wildebeast, cows, birds and zebra. It was a nice room, though a bit small. We had dinner at Jiko which is their "finer" dining restaurant. The food was very good but the atmosphere was only so, so. We also did the buffet at Boma every morning for breakfast. Good buffet food. One thing you might take if you enjoy coffee in your room is your own coffee. Disney is too cheap to provide the coffee although they do provide the pot. A great (our favorite) place for dinner is at California Grill in the Contemporary. Book early and get a window table and enjoy the fireworks over Magic Kingdom. It is really a treat, food and the fireworks.
Animal Kingdom Lodge was very nice but not sure it is worth the bucks.
