Angels Landing
 

How wide is the trail leading upto the top of Angels Landing after the warning sign. Inarticulate the section which has the chains.

Any guidance will be appreciated

The section that has chains is as narrow as 18-24" wide in some places. To my eye, that seems narrower than a single footprint, and hence undoable for me. I do not know how long the very narrow part is as I've never had the nerve.

I don't recall the width as it is narrow and narrow is narrow. I do recall my death grip on the chain. Chain is a life saver. Focus ---- as people have fallen off this cliff to their death 1,000 feet below.

But don't focus on the Angel point. That decision can be made once you arrive at Scouts Lookout that is a large flat area (with toilet). It >> essentially << has the same fabulous view. Once rested, then make that decision.

Stop worrying and start hiking

Note: Walter's Wiggles is on the way to Scout's Landing not the end at Angels. It is a improved stone stair that is most charming.

3 Feet. I don't think it's that dangerous. Yes, a fall would mean certain death. I do think you would have to almost be clowning around to fall tho. It will get your attention. But, consider you are going past thousands of cars each day only 3 feet from you at 60 miles an hour. I think your chances of hitting one of them is much better.

When I went in October, there were many other people on the trail. While it didn't make for a wilderness experience, it made it much less scary, and I may not have gone on past Scout's Landing if I hadn't seen everyone else heading onward.
I felt a great sense of accomplishment when I completed the hike. It's narrow and a scramble in places, and the chains were helpful. You'll be able to decide once you get to Scout's Landing whether you want to continue. Make sure you have good hiking shoes, not just tennis shoes.

I started up the first set of chains after Scouts Landing, made the mistake of looking back over my shoulder midway, then inched back to Scouts Landing. Why would I want to do something that made me feel like throwing up? LOL

Husband and son made it a bit further, then they too turned back. Daughter and son-in-law made it all the way up, and we all applauded them, but to me there was no point in my doing it. I accept my phobias and move on happily. :)

How do those coming up or down pass those going in the opposite direction? It seems to me you are relying not only on your own sure-footedness, but that of the rest of the people on the trail as well.

It may make you feel better when I tell you we did see some young Mormon women going up in long skirts!
