Angels Crest and Rim of the World Scenic Drives: Mid-November 2014
Is the weather likely to be favorable for these drives in mid-November?
Are there places for lunch on either of these drives? HTtY |
I think I'd pack a picnic lunch and choose a nice day if possible.
This website says it is "all season" http://www.myscenicdrives.com/drives...d-scenic-byway Some good ideas on the site for things to see on the "Rim of the World". |
The Weather should be on the brisk side, with highs in the mid 50s. Check the Accuweather forecasts for Wrightwood (for the Angeles Crest Highway, and for Big Bear Lake (for The Rim of the World drive).
Plenty of places to eat on Rim of the World, in places such as Big Bear, Running Springs, and Lake Arrowhead. Angeles Crest is a different story. It passes through the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, just recently created by the President, and it's pretty much wilderness type terrain. So that's where tomfuller's advice should be considered. Here's a web site. http://angelescrestscenichighway.com/road-guide.html |
The Rim of the World drive is most certainly not an 'all season' drive if there is a chance of snow. We grew up spending our weekends in Blue Jay, right next to Lake Arrowhead. Although the chance of snow is rare in November, you still have to be aware. Chain requirements and road closures happen all the time in inclement weather. Again, you will probably be fine for November, just watch the weather. We live in another adjoining mountain range in CA and are actually expecting snow down to 5500' this weekend. Just a head's up.

Thanks for the heads up, Michele.
