Angels Camp & Yosemite
Hi
6 of us from Malaysia will be arriving to San Francisco airport on 28 Sept 2012, noon time. We plan to rent a car to Angels Camp (as we have a week free time sharing there). Please help to plan the route we should take into Angels Camp. Next day, we intend to leave s for a night to Yosemite provided we get accommodation in the valley. Any suggestion where to stay? Then we will return to Angels Camp to go to Calaveras Big Tree, Murphy town etc. Any suggestion for us the next 4 days before we leave to San Francisco city for another 4 nights stay there. I am also considering whether we should drive the coastal road into Carmel & Monterey? Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks a lot.... |
We like to stay at Yosemite Lodge at the Falls, which offers motel type rooms in a perfect location. We have always been able to get a room there by calling and calling until somebody has just cancelled a reservation.
I am also considering whether we should drive the coastal road into Carmel & Monterey? If you can only go as far as Carmel, take Highway 1 through Halfmoon Bay. The ocean views are great. Better would be to drive Highway 1 as far as Cambria (or at least Big Sur). HTTY |
Not clear on when time share starts in Angels Camp. SFO to yosemite is doable in about 5 hrs from SFO Hayward Bridge/580/120 or same to 4 from Stockton to Angel's camp. Hwy $9 in both directions is a facinating tour of the Gold Rush of 1849. Stop at Poor Red's in El Dorado for Bar-B-Q or steak, the long wait is part of the experience as is the Gold Cadillac coctail. A day trip to South Lake Tahoe is doable. On the way back at least a day in Carmel/Monterey with a trip to Big Sur and Nepenthe for lunch and a spectacular view. To SF via Santa Cruz and 280.

With 6 check out the Yosemite Cabins in Curry Village. They may be available, and can accomodate 6, family style.

I suggest you consider the condos and cabins at Yosemite West instead of the Valley, whichnis likely all booked up and would require multiple rooms for 6 people unless you can get one of the specialty rooms at Curry Village. Yosemite West is only a 25 minute drive from the valley floor and you can save on meal costs by self-catering breakfast and maybe dinner too.

I agree - in this case and w/ this size group, Yosemite West would probably be you best bet.

Thanks so much for the suggestions to Big Sur! How far is journey?
