Anchorage-less than a day and no car?

I will be going to Anchorage in mid June arriving late at night and then leaving around 630pm the next day-any suggestions as to where or what I can do without a car? I will be staying downtown Anchorage and want to include a great seafood meal and historical museums/places. This will be my first trip so would appreciate any tips! Thanks!

I thought the trolley tour gave a nice overview of the city. It visits places like Earthquake park and the lake where seaplanes are moored.

Request their visitor guide, has a nice walking tour map. www.anchorage.net

Downtown is very walkable and is a great way to spend a day. There are many wonderful shops, and the best selecton of Made In Alaska merchandise.

Go to Glacier Bay Brewhouse and get the herb-crusted Halibut. Mmmmmm....

Thanks for the tips-just ordered the visitor's guide!

The Alaska Native Heritage Center & the Anchorage Museum of History & Art have a combined ticket you can buy, including free shuttle transporation (between the 2 facilities, and from downtown). Check out www.alaskanative.net. The downtown visitor's center will also have information, and it will probably be in the visitor's guide you ordered as well.

KMK-thanks for the tip on the two museums. They look very interesting so I appreciate the info on them along with having a "deal".

The two places KMK mentioned are great introduction to Alaska's culture and history. Be prepared to dedicate most of the day for both.

I just recalled our lunch while visiting the Museum of History and Art. There is an excellent cafe/restaurant run by The Marks Bros. right at the museum. We had a surprisingly satisfying meal. Check it out. If you are there on Thursday, I think the museum is open untill 9 pm.
